**POSITION TITLE**: Fibre Optic Splice Technician

Vianet is a well-established, customer-oriented telecommunications company that builds, owns and operates fibre optic networks throughout Ontario. Vianet provides FTTH and other telecom services to residential and commercial end users as well as wholesale services to 3rd party carriers.

Vianet operates an in-house OSP division that includes designers, underground and aerial crews, fibre optic splicers, cable locators and installers.

**SUMMARY**:
**POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Prep and splice all forms of OSP fibre optic cable from single fibre drops to high count backbone cables in a variety of splice closure types.
- Prep, splice and activate PON splitter cabinets
- Troubleshoot fibre optic cable problems using a variety of tools and procedures.
- Participate in emergency outage restoration, including after hours work if and when required
- Ensure a safe work area including proper traffic control measures
- While the primary task of this position is fibre splicing, the position may include additional telecom related work from time to time including FTTH installation, network equipment installation, cable locates, or other tasks as required
- Occasional after-hours work may be required for emergency restoration or network cutovers.
- Occasional out of town work may be required.

**EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED**:

- Previous experience splicing loose tube and ribbon cable
- Previous experience prepping fibre optic splice closures
- Valid Ontario Class G or higher drivers licence with a clean drivers abstract
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
- Completes work in a timely and efficient manner.
- Well organized with good time management skills.
- A positive attitude and good work ethic.

**Experience**:

- fibre optic splicing: 1 year (required)

Licence/Certification:

- Ontario Drivers Licence and clean abstract (required)
