Appleby’s scenic 60-acre campus and state of the art boarding house facilities provides an exceptional setting for our overnight camp program. Overnight campers get to experience the beautiful campus throughout the evening and during the day while participating in a wide variety of camps, including Arts & Media Camps, Science & Success Camps, and Sports & Adventure Camps. Appleby Overnight is excited to offer a single-week, five night overnight camp option, as well as a two-week overnight camp experience this summer. We are looking for caring, qualified, and experienced individuals to help our campers ages 7 to 13 experience what overnight camp is all about. The Program Director is responsible for managing, operating, and overseeing the Appleby Overnight program and staff team. Reporting to the Assistant Director, Ancillary Boarding Programs this role involves extensive planning, program development, cross-camp collaboration, camper and parent engagement, staff training, and risk management. This position will support the Appleby Summer Program’s mission to create an exceptional on-campus living experience.

WHAT MAKES THIS JOB AMAZING?

Pre-Camp Planning
- Organize, plan, and coordinate all aspects of the Appleby Overnight program
- Work closely with the Assistant Director of Ancillary Boarding Programs to enhance program offerings
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety policies and protocols
- Develop and coordinate themes and activities in collaboration with International Summer Boarding Program Director
- Design and deliver training modules to support the professional development of Appleby Overnight Instructors
- Plan engaging evening and weekend activities, tournaments, and showcases for all overnight campers to participate in.

During Appleby Overnight
- Foster a positive overnight camp culture by leading, motivating, and developing strong teams.
- Create inclusive activities to engage all campers, including those who may be shy, hesitant, or new to an overnight camp setting
- Monitor and follow up on staff training to ensure the needs of both staff and campers are met.
- Manage staff scheduling, ensure proper documentation and handling absences or issues.
- Assist Appleby Overnight Boarding Instructors in facilitation of large group activities and off-campus excursions
- Oversee the management of facilities, equipment, and programs in accordance with Appleby College's standards.
- Keep open lines of communication with the Assistant Director, Ancillary Boarding Programs, regarding incident reports, behaviour management, and staff dynamics
- Conduct staff performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback
- Review and document all medical or behavioural challenges through incident reports in a timely manner
- Act as a parent liaison to build relationships and enhance customer service.

YOU WILL BE A GREAT FIT IF YOU:

- Have leadership experience in an overnight camp or recreational program setting.
- Possess strong skills and experience working with children aged 7 to 13.
- Have teaching or relevant work experience in camps or educational environments.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills and confidence in leading games and activities for large groups.

WORK SCHEDULE

Training & Pre-Camp:

- Program Director Training: July 30 - Aug 1, 2025: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
- Appleby Overnight Training: August 5 - August 8, 2025: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Camp Session Dates & Hours:

- August 10 - August 22, 2025 (Monday - Friday, mornings and evenings)- Living on campus required during the session dates listed above
