School Age Care Assistant

Nelson Avenue Daycare is looking for a hard working, enthusiastic individual with a passion for children to join our staff team.

In our attempts to value each child and demonstrate God’s love to each one, the staff members observe and collaborate together to determine and follow the children’s interests. Hence, our curriculum is not necessarily theme oriented; rather the children’s interests drive it. Children’s development in all areas is greatly enhanced when they are interested in what they are learning. Staff members web together to determine interests and provide provocations to either determine interest or extend an interest. In this setting, problem solving by the children is valued and the teachers act as mediators, asking questions to help solve conflicts and aid in understanding. All children participate fully in the daily program, regardless of ability. All staff members are responsible for and to interact with all children, regardless of ability. The family is valued as the expert of their child and the family’s input is expected and valued by the staff team. In this way we minister God’s love through Jesus Christ to the whole family.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Responsible Adult Course (or willing to obtain) ECEA or ECE certificate, School Age Care certificate.
- At least nineteen years of age and mature.
- Valid first aid certificate
- Criminal Record Check
- Up to date Immunization and TB test.
- Must be comfortable working in a church environment.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
Assist in the planning and implementation of the program for Nelson Ave. Daycare in accordance with the policies and procedures of the licensing office.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of the program for the centre in accordance with the policies and philosophy of Nelson Ave. Daycare.
- Assist in the preparation of the program to meet the needs of individual children with concern for their interests, special needs, talents, individual style and pace of learning.
- Assist in the development of a program that relates to the children’s cultural and socio-economic background.
- Assist the Supervisor in planning and implementing the program.
- To provide an ordered arrangement, appearance, decor and learning environment in the centre.
- Assisting the Supervisor in maintaining positive interaction between staff and parents.
- Attending all staff meetings and recommended training programs.
- Attending events such as the Christmas concert and Daycare Graduation.
- Carry out fire and earthquake drills, as directed by the Supervisor.
- Adherence to the ECEBC Code of Ethics.
**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 20 per week
**Salary**: From $18.00 per hour
