**Job Summary**
The Grain Handler, under the direction of the Plant Manager, is part of a team responsible for coordinating the flow of incoming and outgoing grain shipments and supporting daily processing operations. Working closely with others, the Grain Handler helps operate and monitor packaging equipment—including bulk packing systems—and ensuring their ongoing maintenance and efficiency. A strong work ethic, attention to detail, and good communication skills are important to support smooth day-to-day operations and meet production goals.
**Position Information**
This position is part time, mainly evenings and weekends with approx. 2-3 shifts a week. Shifts are flexible.
**Must-Have Qualifications**
- Physically fit and capable of lifting up to 50 kilograms, stand for long periods, and perform manual tasks
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with seasonal time pressures
- Willing and able to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
- Familiarity with computers for inventory, shipment tracking, and documentation
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail
- Ability to work at heights up to approximately 80 feet and in varying weather conditions (both indoors and outdoors)
**Farming knowledge is an asset, but not required.** Forklift certification and valid safety tickets (e.g., WHMIS, First Aid) are also considered assets but are not required to apply.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Assist with the coordination and management of timelines for incoming and outgoing shipments and processing lines
- Assist with overseeing the operation, maintenance, and efficiency of all packaging equipment, including bulk packaging systems
- Receive and unload bulk seed and feed shipments; prepare and load outgoing seed and feed orders
- Maintain accurate and organized shipping, receiving, and inventory records, including grain documentation (e.g., scale tickets, grain receipts)
- Perform warehouse inventory management, ensuring proper storage and stock rotation
- Execute quality control procedures as required to meet product standards
- Manage packaging documentation, including tags and labeling
- Deliver professional customer service both in-person and by phone
- Conduct regular cleaning and maintenance activities (daily, weekly, monthly), including plant equipment, scale areas, dust bins, and garbage disposal
- Perform end-of-day yard inspections and secure facility gates
- Carry out grain treatment and cleaning for customer and export orders, including bagging when needed
- Perform grain checks, including probing, sampling, and documentation
- Manage grain transfers and storage (e.g., from inside to outside or between bins)
- Construct bulkheads and assist with live loading as required
- Inspect and maintain plant systems and equipment, including compressors
- Assist with ordering parts, supplies, and fuel
- Work collaboratively with team members to complete tasks and maintain smooth operations
- Participate in weekly team meetings and contribute to ongoing process improvements
- Adhere to all company safety policies and actively participate in safety meetings and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned to support plant operations and team goals

- Exposure to common industry-related hazards such as dust, loud noise, grain odors, chemical fumes, and varying environmental conditions
- Flexibility to work non-standard hours, including evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays as required
- Frequent physical activity, including bending, stooping, lifting, kneeling, and repetitive motion
- Ability to lift, move, and handle objects weighing up to 50 kilograms
