Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Manager of SPIRITUAL CARE SERVICES, and while demonstrating a commitment to the Mission, Values and Strategic Plan of St. Boniface General Hospital (SBGH), the Roman Catholic Priest/Spiritual Care Provider is responsible for: providing emotional and spiritual support to patients, their families and Hospital staff within the established standards of the Department; representing a continuing respect for the full dimensions of healing (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and social) and for the dignity of the human person; through active service to the patients and their families in the midst of illness, suffering and loss; providing services within the multidisciplinary team that can range from supportive presence to participation in sacramental ministry, teaching and crisis counseling; participating on committees as required; participating in the Quality Performance activities of the Spiritual Care Department and of the Hospital; and performing other related duties as required.

Experience
Experience working with a healthcare/institutional setting.
Experience working within interdisciplinary, multicultural setting.
Has working knowledge of computer-based technology.
**NOTE**: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. (Examples of acceptable education and experience would be Prairie Jubilee Program, Institute of Spiritual Leadership, Spiritual Direction programs, Jessie Saulteaux Centre Program).
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
University preparation at a Bachelor level in a relevant field (Theology, Philosophy, World Religions, Spirituality, etc.) and/or post-graduate certificate in spirituality/spiritual studies is required.
Minimum one unit of CASC (Canadian Association of Spiritual Care) or units of Diversity Program offered by University of Winnipeg and Health Sciences Centre, with additional counseling training, or equivalent experience.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
University preparation at a Bachelor level in a relevant field (Theology, Philosophy, World Religions, Spirituality, etc.) and/or post-graduate certificate in spirituality/spiritual studies is required

Qualifications and Skills
Training in counseling from spiritual perspective.
Ability to read, write, speak and understand French is an asset.

Desire to work with the sick and dying in a Catholic Faith-based Institutional setting.
Must possess good physical, spiritual and emotional health.
Participates in continuing professional education/development.
Demonstrates an ability to work effectively with other health care professionals.
Possess good analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills (oral and written) and conflict resolution skills.
