Together we are more than 5,000 dedicated faculty, librarians and staff supporting the University of Victoria’s diverse academic programs, world-class research and commitment to civic engagement. **_*This position is eligible for a Hybrid Work Arrangement*_** **The salary range for this position is**: - **Recruitment range: $87,035 - $95,971 starting salary** determined by the PEA Collective Agreement. - **Performance range: $113,217**salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases. - **Indigenous Peoples** - Job Summary **Mandate**: Reporting to the Director, Indigenous University Initiatives (DIUI), the Project Manager provides support by conducting research and analysis on assigned topics and through the effective coordination, development and implementation of complex projects (e.g. development and implementation of the Indigenous Plan) and related communication plans, in order to advance key institutional and departmental priorities. The Project Manager must have Indigenous cultural competences, be aware of and have knowledge of ongoing issues and concerns in light of the assigned projects and must demonstrate at all times discerning and independent judgement of the highest professional standard. The Indigenous Plan is a university-wide initiative with linkages to the university’s Strategic Plan and other institutional plans. The Project Manager supports all activities related to the Indigenous Plan in collaboration with the DIUI, including renewal and implementation of the Plan. **Objectives**: - Plan and implement projects which include the development of budgets, background research and analysis, communication plans, work plans and key, measurable deliverables. - Collaborate on strategic priorities and initiatives to support implementation of the Plan across the university and in community. - Coordinate strategic and portfolio-level stakeholder engagement initiatives and events related to the goals and priorities of the OVPI. - Job Requirements This position requires a Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) in a relevant field with project management experience working in a post-secondary setting and/or in Indigenous communities or organizations, and: - Must be knowledgeable of Coast Salish communities; - Three years’ experience in a post-secondary or academic environment implementing Indigenization efforts, or Indigenous-specific projects; - Experience presenting complex issues and opportunities to high-level officials and third party partners; - Experience providing recommendations, research and advice to support strategic planning; - Technical writing experience (proposals, reports and summaries); - Management of complex, multi-stakeholder, academic and/or community based projects; - Financial management including budget development and tracking experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Requirements include knowledge of: - Engagement with provincial First Nations groups, Chief and Council. - Understanding of Coast Salish protocols including knowledge of community structures, big house, chief and council, band administration and family structures. - Cultural awareness of the Indigenous peoples of British Columbia and familiarity with Indigenous communities and the issues they face in regard to the public post-secondary education system. - Challenges, opportunities, and advances in Indigenous Education in Canada and internationally. - Implementation of Indigenous worldviews within an academic environment. - Indigenous laws, historical perspectives, and challenges specific to Indigenous students and communities. - Understanding of secondary and post-secondary education systems in Canada including Indigenous-controlled educational institutes/systems. - Secondary and post-secondary education systems in Canada and in target markets including Indigenous-controlled educational institutes/systems local Indigenous communities’ history, social circumstances and protocols. - Project management best practices.
