**The Opportunity**
This position creates a stimulating, safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow, while at the same time providing support to families. This position strongly adheres to Licensing Regulations under the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and YMCA policies and procedures.
**Responsibilities include**:
- Provide in-classroom support to allow teachers the opportunity to complete documentation/programming. Also provides staff with ideas for growing their programming based on the Playing to Learn Curriculum.
- Develop and help implement Routine Base Plans, providing resources/access to webinars for staff to help meet program plans
- Be the liaison between staff and team members for children with specials needs, and provide strategies for staff on how to deal with difficult behaviours/ situations
- Provide direct program leadership in the classroom, modelling service excellence in children’s program delivery while demonstrating a thorough knowledge of best practices for children and families in accordance with the YMCA Mission. Supporting all aspects and implementation of the Playing to Learn Curriculum, including but not limited to play partnering, program plans, documentations, small groups, journal entries, the environment and aesthetics, etc.
- Responsible for fostering positive self-esteem in children and following the YMCA Policy regarding child guidance techniques as based on the Playing to Learn Curriculum.
- Adherence to YMCA Child Protection Policies and Protection, YMCA’s Code of Conduct. Responsible for the care of specific groups of children as required based on operational needs
- Allow for adequate set up time before programs begin - responsible for physical set-up and proper storage and clean-up of equipment and materials used in direct program delivery. Is responsible to keep a tidy work area/environment free of clutter at all times.
- Responsible for keeping accurate and organized records and ensuring all documents pertaining to these items are passed in promptly to supervisor
- This position contributes towards the provision and maintenance of safe work operations, including but not limited to maintaining staff/child ratios, continuous head counts, compliance with the fire drill procedures
**Qualifications and Skills**
- Early Childhood Education Level 2
- Experience working in early learning and/or school-age environment
- Age specific certificates considered an asset (i.e. special needs, infant/toddler)
- Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and co-workers
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail, including maintaining a clean and clutter free environment
- Knowledge of basic to intermediate computer skills
- Ability to handle multiple competencies deadlines
- Demonstrate the ability to treat/navigate sensitive topics or communications with tact
- Valid First Aid and CPR (C) or Emergency First Aid certificate
