**The Opportunity**
The Financial Analyst (FA) will work with the Manager, Financial Controllership to support the controllership functions for Open Text’s Canadian Entities. The FA will be an integral part of the accounting cycle, providing support to the Global Finance team, assisting in accounting and financial reporting activities as well as regional requirements for the particular legal entities in Canada. The FA will be a key member of the North American finance team, with traditional controllership responsibilities, in addition to being a significant contributor to the consolidated US GAAP close.
**You Are Good At**
- Responsible for the close for the Canadian entities
- Performing analytical review of period end financial results.
- Responding to monthly questions from management on the balance sheet and P&L review.
- Preparing the annual legal entity memo.
- Reviewing account reconciliations and promote best practices with Group Shared Services Centre (GSSC) to ensure proper accounting and controls are in place.
- Responsible for review of regular GST/HST returns, indirect sales tax compliance and assisting with CRA indirect tax audit inquiries.
- Responsible for the Canadian Controllership requirements
- Supporting the tax group in the preparation of the annual accounting-tax information package (TIP)
- Liaising with Business Finance regarding finance matters pertaining to Canada
- Drafting Canadian legal entity financial statements
- Preparing and file Canadian financial statistical filings
- Providing local support to the business for matters pertaining to Canada
- Assisting the business in addressing finance matters
- Providing general support and information to the business as requested
- Providing support for new acquisitions and legal entity system migrations
- Participating in post-acquisition integration activities
**What It Takes**
- 5+ years of finance experience
- Experience with general Controllership requirements
- Good knowledge of US GAAP reporting and knowledge of GST/HST
- Strong collaboration and organizational skills
- Strong written and spoken communication skills are a must, with a focus on standard finance terminology and “asking the best questions that are focused and direct and show a clear understanding of the underlying accounting challenge”.
- This role often requires reviewing PDF documentation support, therefore strong reading, observational, analytical and interpretive skills are a must.
- Must be meticulous and detail oriented - critical thinking skills are a must
- Capable of working independently, multi-tasking to establish priorities, and completing objectives without supervision in a fast-paced environment.
- This is a hands-on role therefore, a desire to understand “how it works” and digging into and understanding the details of transactions are a must.
- Advanced Excel skills
- Knowledge of SAP is an asset but not required
Academic
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
- CPA designation
