**Position Summary**:
The Patient Safety, Patient Experience & Risk Department is responsible for:

- Development, management & oversight of GGH’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program, including the annual risk assessment checklist (RAC) program
- Management and oversight for the patient safety incident review process, including the critical incident reviews and quality of care review processes
- Development and planning of a comprehensive patient experience program, including patient experience surveys and patient relations
- The administration and maintenance of the safety incident reporting system
- Ownership of GGH’s med-legal processes, including acting as the key point of contact for legal claims and representing the organization at discovery

Reporting to the Director of Strategy, Quality & Patient Safety, the Manager for Patient Safety, Patient Experience & Risk will work closely with other departments to provide leadership, insight and expertise in supporting a culture of quality and safety across the organization. The Manager, in collaboration with the Director, will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Patient Safety, Patient Experience & Risk Department.

**Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities**:

- Registered Healthcare Professional
- Bachelor’s Degree in a healthcare field, Master’s degree preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of acute care clinical experience.
- 2 years of formal management experience with demonstrated leadership skills and responsibilities
- Minimum of 3 years experience in quality management, patient safety, negotiation and conflict resolution and facilitation
- Experience with Lean process improvement methodologies
- Membership in relevant professional organization(s)
- Certification/Designation in Patient Safety (e.g. CPPS, CPSO) preferred
- Experience in medico-legal preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a self-directed manner as well as collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
- Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues and physicians
- Demonstrate leadership with respect to enhancing patient and staff safety.
- Demonstrate leadership to support patient experience, satisfaction and safety.
- Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal communication, coaching, mentoring and team-building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate positive interactions among all members of the healthcare team.
- Proven analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Strong change management skills and demonstrated success in facilitating department-level change initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound and effective decisions.
- Knowledge of the Ontario healthcare system and applicable legislation
- Computer Skills: proficiency in NSIR, RL Solutions, Office Suites (including Excel) and other appropriate statistical and computer programs
