Job Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Quality Reporting and Analytics, the Data Scientist advises senior leaders and influences strategic direction by providing advanced analytical services across all levels of BC Assessment in support of corporate initiatives and programs.

The role is critical to the success of the corporate-wide analytics program, with areas of specialization including: mass appraisal (various property types); data extraction, cleaning, modelling, and visualization; statistical analysis; and machine learning.- Learn, maintain, and improve existing analytical models.- Learn, maintain and enhance existing advanced analytical tools that support the creation of the Assessment Roll.- Develop new advanced analytic tools to improve the efficiency and quality of mass appraisal processes.- Execute advanced analytics using assessment data to improve the quality and efficiency of processes.

Key Accountabilities-
- Collaborate and work closely with multi-level/cross-functional business experts to identify and resolve complex analytical problems to determine optimal business strategies and improve the quality of organization-wide information.- Independently use knowledge of predictive analytics theory to lead complex analytics initiatives to identify valuable and innovative insights that span all levels of the organization. Value is measured by cost/time savings; improved data quality; business process improvement; or improved service delivery.- Use deep knowledge of analytics and property assessment to lead and influence the valuation research, development and implementation of multiple regression analysis (MRA) initiatives that provide property valuation direction across the organization.- Reviews and collaborates on research projects conducted by external professionals and project teams.- Research, develop and document corporate wide standards for use, control, and maintenance of future enterprise-wide analytics, dash boarding, forecasting, and visualization methods- Translate complex datasets into strategic insights for the business and communicate simply to nontechnical key decision makers, visualizing results, to create understanding and solution buy-in at all levels of the organization.- Provide insight into leading analytic practices, design and lead iterative learning and development cycles, and ultimately produce new and creative analytic solutions that will become part of our core business.- Provide expertise and mentoring on mathematical and analytic concepts for the broader
