**About Harquail Centre for Neuromodulation at Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI)**
- Researchers at SRI have the largest and most comprehensive world leading experience in clinical use of FUS for various brain disorders
- The successful applicant will be responsible for performing all aspects of patient care for paediatric patients processes prescribed by physicians and in compliance with the College of Nurses of Ontario and Division of Oncology Nursing, acting as the clinical resource, organizing daily work flow, conducting patient assessments, counselling patients and families when required, providing care, administration of chemotherapy treatments, providing patient information, etc.
- The individual will have reporting responsibilities to the Principal Investigator and/or Clinical Research Manager for Focused ultrasound (FUS) trials and be responsible for providing nursing assistance for Oncology trials that occur within the Harquail Centre for Neuromodulation at Sunnybrook Health Sciences
**JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Primary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following**:
- Safe Administration of chemotherapy to clinical trials patient
- Excellent patient/family teaching skills
- Insertion of peripheral intravenous or establishing access via central lines using sterile technique and best practices from the standards and practices of the college
- Ensure proper supplies and equipment are maintained
- Pick up medication from the in-hospital pharmacy
- Ensure delivery of the right dosage and are aware of contraindicated medications, and potential side-effects related to the drug delivery etc.
- Create a calming environment and make sure the patient is comfortable during the treatment
- Care planning and coordination of care within a multidisciplinary team
- Utilization of paper case report forms (clinical notes, treatment reports etc.) for documentation of patient care
- Familiarity with all pertinent study protocols and assist with patient flow during treatment days
**ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS**:
- College of Nurses of Ontario registration plus a minimum of five (5) years related practical experience.
- Experience in oncology nursing required. Paediatric oncology strongly preferred.
- Experience administering systemic treatments required.
- DeSouza Chemotherapy/Biotherapy course required.
- Canadian Nurses Association certification as Certified Oncology Nurse CON(C) or Oncology Nursing Society (OCN) certification considered an asset.
- Capacity to act as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated evidence of participation in education and clinical training programs.
- CPR - Basic provider certification required.
- Excellent IV insertion skills required.
- Ability to access vascular access devices required.
- Previous experience in the administration of antineoplastic agents and biotherapy is required.
- Critical care skills considered an asset.
- Completion of a physical assessment course an asset
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills
- Strong interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills
- Strong attention to detail required
In addition, you will be expected to:
- Work within Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC) and observe Hospital rules and regulations, policies, procedures, practices, safety procedures and current legislation, in particular the Human Rights Code regarding discrimination and harassment.
- Ensure the confidentiality of patient, employee and Hospital information at all times.
- Work cooperatively and constructively with the other members of staff.
- Perform the above functions in a manner which reflects SHSC Hospital philosophy and mission of service, while promoting and maintaining good public relations with patients, visitors and staff.
