**Position Description**

**Title**:Health, Safety, and Environment Manager

**Department**:Operations

**Location**: Truro

**Immediate Supervisor: Operations Manager**

**Status**:Non-Exempt Salaried

**Position Purpose**:The HSE Leader will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards. This role will play a critical part in fostering a culture of safety and environmental stewardship, driving continuous improvement, and achieving our goal of zero injuries.

**Principle Accountabilities**
- Develop and implement comprehensive HSE policies, procedures, and programs.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
- Design and deliver HSE training programs for employees at all levels, including new hire orientation, ongoing safety training, and specialized training for specific roles.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make necessary adjustments to ensure continuous improvement.
- Monitor and report on HSE performance metrics, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with management and employees to promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
- Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal HSE regulations.
- Manage waste reduction, recycling, and other environmental sustainability initiatives.
- Stay current with industry best practices and regulatory changes.
- Integrate ISO 18001 standards with HSE practices to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive approach to health, safety, and environmental management.
- Develop and maintain documentation and records in accordance with ISO 18001 requirements.
- Conduct internal audits to ensure ongoing compliance with Loss Control and ISO 18001 standards and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Manage injury cases, including reporting, treatment coordination, case management, and return-to-work programs.
- Develop, track, report, and analyze leading and lagging safety metrics to drive continuous improvement and achieve safety goals.
- Familiarity with ISO 14001 standards and their implementation.

**Essential Skills and Experience**
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Health Care or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in HSE roles, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of HSE regulations and standards.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong influencing and relationship building skills.
- Ability to educate and teach others on HSE policies and procedures.
- Ability to analyze data and generate actionable insights.
- Certification in HSE (e.g., CSP, CIH, NEBOSH) is a plus.
- ** Experience with lean manufacturing principles** and **5S methodology**.
- ** Experience with ISO 18001** standards and their implementation.
- ** Familiarity with ISO 14001** standards and their implementation.
