Financial Controller

**Job Title**: Controller for Henry’s Electric Service

**Location**: Banff, AB - Onsite

**Company Overview**:
Henry’s Electric is a well-established electrical contracting company in Banff, Alberta having continuously operated since 1949. The company currently employs roughly 45 electricians and apprentices, as well as an admin staff of 6. Our projects range from large-scale electrical installations to specialized contracting services. We are seeking a highly motivated Controller to join our leadership team. This role is ideal for someone who is not only strategic but also hands-on, ready to dive into the details of treasury, operations, and personnel management.

**Position Overview**:
The Controller will oversee all financial and accounting operations, assist with strategic direction while managing the day-to-day financial activities of the company.

Direct reports include:

- Fulltime administrator/bookkeeper
- Electrical purchaser
- Electrical project manager
- Shop employee

Additional members of senior management consist of:

- President: Master Electrician with over 20 years of ownership and 30 years of experience.
- CFO: CPA, CA with 10 years in the electrical industry and 6 years of public practice.
- Electrical Estimator: More than 20 years of electrical experience
- Operations Manager: Master Electrician with over 20 years of experience.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Financial Management:_
- Oversee all aspects of the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Conduct balance sheet reconciliations and ad-hoc reporting.
- Review accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll completed by administrator.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements to support strategic decision-making.
- Assist with budgets, cash flow forecasts, and financial plans.
- Completion of GST filings, assist with Year End, and T2 tax return.
- Strategic Leadership:_
- Collaborate with senior leadership on long-term planning and financial forecasting.
- Assist forecasting labour requirements and working capital needs for project timelines.
- Provide reporting to drive strategic financial analysis on project profitability.
- Identify opportunities for operational improvements and cost savings.
- Execute initiatives to modernize and streamline outdated processes.
- Maintain business licenses and required registrations for municipalities, National Parks, professional associations, as required for complex operational area.
- Human Resources & Staffing:_
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies to maintain talent.
- Assist with HR compliance with legislative requirements, including labor laws and employment standards.
- Support employee development through training, performance management, and career growth opportunities.
- Foster a positive workplace culture that promotes teamwork and employee engagement.
- Project Management:_
- Collaborate with project managers to ensure financial and operational efficiency across all projects.
- Maintain detailed backlog schedules and forecasts to ensure adequate financing.
- Safety & Compliance:_
- Assist the company’s Safety Officer, maintaining COR certification and yearly safety audits.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and best practices.
- Complete and file yearly WCB and Worksafe BC documentation.
- Implement and monitor safety programs to protect employees and reduce risk.

**Qualifications**:

- CPA designation required.
- 5+ years of experience in a financial role, preferably in the construction or electrical contracting industry.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and tax compliance.
- Proven experience in budgeting, cash flow management, and strategic planning.
- Ability to understand HR functions, including recruitment, compliance, and employee relations.
- Experience managing safety programs and compliance with industry standards.
- Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach to leadership.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across the organization.
- Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.

- Experience in navigating complex project-based financial environments.
- Knowledge of electrical contracting operations and industry-specific challenges.
- Familiarity with modernizing outdated processes and implementing new systems.
