Oak Bay is a vibrant community with a population of approximately 18,000. It is located 10 minutes from downtown Victoria on beautiful Vancouver Island.
**Department Overview and Opportunities**:
The Oak Bay Police Department has a long history of providing outstanding service to its residents and enjoys the status of being one of the safest communities in Canada.
The department is made up of 30 sworn and civilian members who appreciate the role police officers may play in a supportive community and are excited to get back to a more grassroots style of policing. The dedicated women and men of the OBPD subscribe to a philosophy of service and count themselves fortunate to be able to focus on crime prevention ideals versus the reactionary policing required in many of today’s larger forces.
With a focus on high visibility initiatives such as foot and bike patrol, we strive to be a part of our community while our proximity to larger police services allows for both support and opportunities to flourish. **Responsibilities**
- Enforce laws and regulations to maintain public safety and order.
- Conduct routine patrols to deter and detect criminal activity.
- Respond to emergency calls and incidents, providing assistance as needed.
- Investigate crimes by gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
- Collaborate with community members to build trust and improve relations.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on incidents and arrests.
- Participate in training and professional development to enhance law enforcement skills.
