**Position Details**:
**What** **You** **Will** **Do**
Reporting to the Director of Product and Pricing, the Underwriting Technical Consultant will drive the following:
- Develop product rules and partner with Product Specialists to build and maintain underwriting guidelines to ensure consistent interpretation and operationalization of the product features and attributes
- Oversee the technical debrief on how the policy responds by product specialist to business unit managers in support of seamless operationalization of a new/enhanced product deployment
- Work with colleagues across departments to better understand and document business processes in an effort to identify and recommend opportunities to improve or enhance our insurance offerings
- Partner with product management in the development of new product concepts by providing coverage recommendations for all new pursuits. This involves the fulfillment direction to technical writers, (Product Specialists) to create provisions
- Provide policy risk management recommendations to leadership assessing the impact program guarantees has on the policy and its impact to Orion’s risk tolerance and regulatory compliance. Identify deficiencies and recommend appropriate changes to coverages, endorsements, etc.
- Provide insight into underwriting operational risks Orion faces through qualitative and quantitative methodologies
- Establish underwriting and risk selection guidelines for group benefits business
- Monitor legislative, regulatory and policy-making activities of governments at all levels across Canada and identify opportunities for Orion to help shape policy outcomes and/or industry best practices
- Conduct meetings sharing industry information, make recommendations, create proposals and strategies to capitalize on changes to meet overall business objectives. This includes leading the implementation of approved initiatives
**What You Have**
- 5 years travel insurance industry experience and/or life/health insurance industry experience, project management experience are considered essential
- Post-secondary education in Business or related field
- Strong decision making, risk assessment skills and travel medical insurance product knowledge in both the Individual and Group Market
- Experience in promoting and training that includes effective presentation and public speaking skills to influence various levels within an organization (peer, senior leaders, external partners etc.)
- Hold a professional insurance designation: LOMA and/or CIP, or working towards
- Strong understanding of Lean Six Sigma (certified Yellow Belt an asset)
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Excellent communication skills
- Strategic thinker - able to see the “big picture”
- Bilingual (French) an asset
