(a Ralmax Group Company) has an immediate opening for a full-time Machinist at our steel fabrication plant in Victoria, British Columbia. The Machinist will read and interpret drawings, technical documentation and verbal instructions in order to produce precision components in accordance with project requirements. In addition, the Machinist will be responsible for disassembly, troubleshooting, repair and assembly of industrial mechanical equipment as required to rebuild or refurbish in accordance with customer requirements. They will have the ability to operate a variety of manual heavy machining equipment, hand tools, cranes and mobile equipment in order to perform assigned tasks. **What we offer**: - Competitive base pay - Comprehensive benefits package - Pension - Health and wellness programs **Responsibilities**: - Perform mechanical disassembly & assembly along with the ability to install mechanical equipment - Set-up and operate a variety of lathes, milling machines and multi-tasking machining centers - Ensure parts are produced to specifications, verify work piece dimensions are correct and made within tolerances - Manually machining and manufacturing quality precision parts from various materials to specified size and shape, based on Work Order, drawings and specifications provided - Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts and tables or study sample parts to determine machining operation to be performed and plan best sequence of operations - Fit and assemble machined metal parts and sub-assemblies using hand and power tools - Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, verniers, dial indicators, etc. - Compute dimensions and tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces - Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments - Set up, operate, and maintain a variety of machine tools to perform precision, machining operations such as sawing, turning, milling, boring, drilling; troubleshooting as required - Inspect the machined product; correct any defects - Complete any required documentation - Clean and maintain equipment - Contribute to keeping locations in and around the plant clean and hazardous free - Support continuous improvement and quality objectives regarding machine shop procedures and practices - Other duties as required **Qualifications**: **Education and Experience** - High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred - Red Seal Journeyman Machinist trade certificate is an asset - 3+ years of experience operating machines in a manufacturing environment is an asset - Proficient with lathes, milling machines, and drill presses to manufacture and repair components for heavy industry - Preferably experienced with horizontal and vertical boring mills, as well as line boring - Experienced in jobber shop repair environment **Knowledge and Skills** - Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical manuals and drawing, written procedures, and verbal instructions - Ability to manage complex machining tasks with a high level of productivity and accuracy - Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions - Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment - Ability to follow all Company policies and procedures, including safety - Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times - Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers and/or supervisors with other duties as required **Requirements**: - Must possess a selection of basic hand tools i.e. basic mechanical tools, measurements tools 6" dia. and under - Must possess a current and valid driver's license - Must be willing to work overtime as required - Ability to read drawings, problem solve, and work within a team environment to meet tight deadlines - Must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time, able to lift up to 50 lbs, kneel, climb ladders, and walk on varied terrain - Must be eligible to work in Canada **Work Conditions**: - Manual machining and custom repair work environment - Occasionally required to go on board marine vessels and to customer sites - Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc. - Safety equipment such as coveralls, hi-vis vest, hardhat, glasses and gloves are provided - Measurement tools greater than 6" and up are provided - Regularly perform repetitive tasks - Possess manual dexterity to put parts or pieces together quickly and accurately - Specific vision abilities required includ
