The job works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to assist students in learning and developing skills in the areas of: socialization, communication and behavior. The job also provides general support in the classroom.

**Responsibilities**:

- Assist teacher with planning, preparing and implementing programs to meet students’ needs
- Organize classroom materials, activities, equipment and programs
- Assist multi-disciplinary team with implementation of developmental strategies
- Behaviour management
- Provide a range of personal and physical care
- Assist co-workers during peak periods and absences

**Qualifications**:

- High School diploma plus certificate/diploma in an area related to early childhood education or special needs education, plus one year directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and qualifications
- Knowledge of intervention techniques and strategies, first aid, CPR and administering medication
- Knowledge of Microsoft programs including Word, Outlook and the internet
- Ability to communicate with sensitivity, diplomacy and tact is essential
- Ability to effectively communicate in the English language both oral and written with the ability to develop and maintain communication with students, teachers and specialists; fluency in French is an asset
- Ability to travel to sites within Edmonton
- Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident
