Retail Sales

We're looking for seasonal staff during our busy holiday shopping season this fall through December, which top performers continuing into next year. There are up to 5 positions available, ranging from part-time (~20 hours) to full-time (~40 hours).

Maker House Co.’s mission is to bring the maker movement to main street; To influence positive social, and economic change in the local community via retail sales of Canadian-made and locally-sourced gifts & furniture.

We are looking for future Shop Guide (Sales Associate) and Keyholder roles to assist our team in-store and at holiday popup markets around Ottawa.

It's a fast-paced multi-tasking role during busy seasons (Black Friday, Christmas, etc) so would also be great for someone with serving experience in a restaurant or coffee shop. During the slower season we look for initative and work ethic to keep focused on tasks when there are fewer customers.

**JOB DESCRIPTION**:

- Greeting customers and starting conversations, making them feel welcome in the store
- Creating a positive environment for customers and other staff to experience the store
- Sharing our company message with new customers and reinforcing it with existing ones; 200+ Canadian makers, Know the story of your stuff, Meet the Makers, etc.
- Answering the store phone and directing calls as needed
- Point-of-sale operation and cash register procedures
- Wrapping and gift wrapping, framing prints when required
- Picking and packing online orders for pickup, delivery or shipping
- Restocking, tagging, and merchandising
- Receiving, counting inventory, inputting inventory
- Organizing and cleaning the store to a professional standard
- Proactive food sampling and messaging to customers on seasonal sales and best sellers
- Additional Keyholder responsibilities include opening/closing the store and assisting Managers as a leader with the team.

**REQUIREMENTS**:
1. A passion for local and Canadian-made gifts & furniture; You enjoy going to craft shows, and knowing the story behind your purchases;
2. You exude positive energy and smile often; You start sales conversations easily with strangers; You value community, kindness and diversity;
3. You thrive in a fast paced environment juggling multiple priorities. You also have good initiative and work ethic to maintain focus when there are fewer customers.

4. Good at both giving and receiving constructive feedback in a professional manner; Takes pro-active steps to ensure corrective action.

5. Fast learner who takes notes and keeps yourself organized;
6. Trustworthy and reliable; excellent professional communication skills;
7. Experience using technology apps such as Slack is an asset;

9. Bilingual french-english may be an asset.

10. Available to work 20 to 40 hours per week, including at least 1 weekend day.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $18.00-$19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 - 40 per week
