The Program
336-43 Auto Alley - Barrhead
Auto Alley is a single staffed 24-hour program supporting a male requiring assistance with personal care, toileting and hygiene.
Challenging behaviours may occur on a daily basis therefore, only applicants with well-developed de-escalation techniques and high behaviours/complex needs skills will be interviewed.
IMPORTANT - The client smokes/vapes within the residence.
In Your Role You Will
- Support/assist individuals basic needs and life skills, etc. and achieving personal goals.
- Provide/assist with personal care i.e. toileting, bathing, personal hygiene, grooming, dental care, etc.
- Assist client with evening/morning tasks
- Deal with challenging behaviours
- Ensure a safe, consistent environment and provide immediate support in crisis situations.
- Medication administration or first aid, as needed.
- If necessary, drive individuals (in your own vehicle) to appointments, day programs, etc.

The Position
During overnight hours (8pm to 8am), the Disability Support Worker (DSW) assists with aids to daily living including personal care, toileting, dental hygiene, healthy eating, etc. The awake night shift worker will ensure a consistent, healthy and safe environment for persons in care and provide immediate support in crisis situations.
**Typical overnight shift may include**:
- 8pm - assist/model nightly bed-time routine (personal hygiene, brushing teeth, etc.)
- Overnight awake - ensure a consistent, healthy and safe environment for persons in care.
- client wakes - 8am
- assist/model a regular morning routine, including personal care & hygiene, household tasks (including food prep, daily chores, etc.).
- 8am shift exchange
Criminal Record Check/Ministry Check Statement
** Prior to confirmation of employment all applicants must provide a current (dated within 6 months of hiring date) Criminal Record Check and Ministry Check. These checks can take up to 6 weeks to obtain, please ensure you prepare accordingly.
- 2+ years experience working with significant mental health concerns, aggressive behaviours and/or trauma.
- Must be comfortable assisting person-served with personal care, including toileting and dental hygiene and must be comfortable handling bodily fluids
- High School Diploma
- Prefer - Certificate, Diploma or Degree - Disability Service Worker, Social Work, Special Education, Health Care Aide, Personal Support Worker or related field
- Valid Drivers license with clear driving abstract and reliable vehicle
- Current First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification (NVCI or CPI)
- Training in Trauma Informed Practice, Medication Administration, Suicide Intervention, Behaviour Management, Conflict Resolution, Food Safe
- Confident & able to function in a crisis
