Childcare Worker

We are looking for an experienced childcare worker who is skilled at meeting the emotional, physical and developmental needs of children and enjoys helping families feel supported. Working with the Child Support team, this role will provide childcare to children residing in the Sheriff King Home (Shelter). This role involves delivering comprehensive and consistent services grounded in trauma informed and strength-based practices.

**There are two (2) positions available with a variable schedule from Monday
- Friday, one position works 37.5 hours per week and the other roles works 27.5 hours per week. These positions are not eligible for a hybrid work arrangement**.

**WHAT YOU’LL DO**
- Provide a nurturing and safe environment that supports children’s growth and development
- Ensure the health and safety of children and provide supervision at all times
- Assist with researching, developing, and implementing developmentally appropriate activities for infant, toddler and preschool aged children
- Have an understanding of the desired goals and outcomes of structured activities
- Interact and relate with children in a developmentally appropriate manner
- Build positive relationships with the children’s parents or caregivers
- Organize playroom decor that is appropriate and incorporates multiculturalism
- Maintain daily attendance records according to program and licensing standards
- Foster and contribute to a culture of inclusion and equity in a diverse work environment; understand and recognize that individual differences significantly contribute to YW Calgary’s success in its programs and workplace.
- Integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into one’s role, work, and engagement with others, as aligned with YW Calgary’s values and Practice Framework.
- Share individual accountability to create and maintain inclusive and safe spaces and practices (physically and psychologically) that are open, transparent, and
- encourage accountability, advocacy, and mentorship.

- Inform team members and leaders to stop any unsafe work practices immediately to create awareness and injury/illness prevention.
- Report any hazards or incidents immediately to your leader in accordance with YW Calgary’s incident reporting requirements to help ensure pro-active risk mitigation and management in compliance with legislative requirements (Occupational Health & Safety, Workers’ Compensation Board, etc.)
- Use all safety materials, equipment, devices, and tools required to safely perform work in alignment with YW’s role and task requirements.
- Share individual accountability to create and maintain an inclusive environment the fosters a physical and psychologically safe workplace. Actively participate in the implementation of the National Standard for Psychological Health & Safety and integrate into all work practices and interactions with colleagues.

**WHAT YOU’LL BRING**
- Early Learning and Child Care Certificate/Diploma or equivalent
- Alberta Childcare Certification - Child Development Worker (level 2) or higher required
- Knowledge of the Province of Alberta’s childcare regulations and Alberta Health Standards for Daycare
- Childcare First Aid & CPR
- Ability to interact with children up to 30 lbs
- A clear Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search, and an Intervention Record Check is required upon commencement of employment
- You are passionate about providing responsive and flexible childcare to children ages 0 to 6
- You enjoy the challenge of ensuring play is safe and sensitive yet fun and engaging
- You bring energy, new ideas and excellence to your work and you love to collaborate and support your team
