About the Role

At Family Services of Greater Vancouver, we’ve been helping people in crisis since 1928. As a non-profit, we help people develop skills and knowledge, empowering our neighbours to create positive change in their lives. Our team is made up of more than 420 staff, including expert counsellors and support workers who provide compassionate, client-centered care to youth experiencing homelessness, families and children impacted by trauma, victims of domestic violence, and other vulnerable people from an evidence-based, trauma-informed lens. We believe in building a brighter future for all British Columbians and providing a supportive and inclusive workplace for all our staff.

The Family Counsellor at our Vancouver Family Preservation and Reunification Program provides services primarily to families that promote healthier family functioning and linkages to community resources. This position provides a variety of parenting education, support, and counselling to children and families referred by the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

**Work Hours**: 35 hours per week (with flexible work hours). This is a 6-month temporary full-time position with the possibility of an extension

**Salary**: Starting at GS13 Step 1 at $36.77 per hour

**Location**: 4103 Fraser Street at East King Edward, Vancouver, BC V5V 4E9

What you bring:
**Education, Training, Experience**
- Masters degree in social work or clinical counselling (or equivalent education and experience)
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience

**Knowledge, Skills, Abilities**
- Knowledge of child welfare policies and practices
- Working knowledge of different parenting strategies and the ability to share these strategies with families
- In-depth knowledge of child development and child abuse dynamics
- An understanding of integrated case management/wrap around service delivery
- An understanding of child and adolescent stages of development
- Superior crisis intervention skills
- Ability to work with families that may present multiple service needs related to poverty, addictions, violence, child abuse or neglect, and mental health issues
- Ability to provide counselling in a variety of approaches that best fit the client’s needs either in the office, community, or in their homes
- Ability to support and encourage equity, diversity and social justice in the work place
- Knowledge of computer operating systems (Microsoft Office 365, Excel, SharePoint, MS Teams)

**Additional Requirements**
- Class 5 Driver’s License and personal vehicle
- Ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check
- Proof of Covid-19 vaccination status will be required
