The Engineering Associate is responsible for carrying out the day-to-day operations of the Engineering Department. This involves the general upkeep, repair and beautification of the Lodge spaces including, but not limited to: guest rooms, public spaces, administrative spaces, food & beverage outlets, staff housing, spa and pools. They will perform routine, preventive, and emergency interior/exterior maintenance and repairs to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of hotel operations.
Working in a safe manner, the Engineering Associate collaborates with the other operations teams, while taking direction from the Engineering Supervisor and Chief Engineer. The Engineering Associate is trained in routine maintenance rounds and, when necessary, responds to guest calls, carries out daily maintenance tasks, and coordinates work with other departments.
**Engineering Associate Duties & Responsibilities**:
- Familiar and compliant with the hotel’s mission and standards in performing maintenance activities.
- Safely maintain the physical appearance and operational efficiency of the hotel including but not limited to repairs in: mechanical, electrical, plumbing, basic drywall repair, painting, furniture, exterior cleaning, snow removal, pressure washing and drain cleaning.
- Complete maintenance tasks, work orders and special projects in a timely manner.
- Perform building walkthroughs, spot checks and upkeep of all areas and clearly communicates any issues to the Engineering Supervisor and Chief Engineer.
- Maintenance and upkeep of the staff housing facilities in a timely manner including troubleshooting and repairs as necessary.
- Respond to guest's maintenance needs promptly and ensure guests receive professional, efficient, prompt, and courteous service up to hotel standards.
- Ensure proper records are kept relating to all plant and equipment throughout the hotel including repair and service records.
- Performing chemical balancing, cleaning and upkeep of all pool equipment, whilst ensuring proper records are kept of pool chemicals and equipment
- Prioritize job requests and tasks and ensure work orders/tickets are updated or closed out appropriately providing as much information as possible.
- Maintains the facilities in the absence of the Engineering Supervisor and Chief Engineer, following the Emergency Protocols laid out by the Chief Engineer when necessary.
- Take responsibility for the cleanliness and safety aspects of all plant and mechanical equipment rooms including the workshop.
- Follow correct maintenance schedules and procedures and assists in repairs, informing the Engineering Supervisor and Chief Engineer of any concerns.
- Assisting the department with inventory of tools, parts, chemicals, etc. and reports to Chief Engineer when it is time to re-order.
- Strong and effective communication with all departments, specifically Housekeeping and Front Office.
- Perform frequent standing, bending, twisting, crawling, kneeling, squatting, climbing, reaching, grasping and heavy lifting.
- Follows all safety procedures set out by the Chief Engineer and the management team, including COVID-19 Safe Work Procedures, and clearly communicates any hazards.
- Follows green programs and initiatives set out by the Chief Engineer and the management team to ensure an environmentally friendly approach to the workplace.
- Must have WHMIS certificate or higher level of hazardous material handling training.
- Performs all other duties as required.
Prerequisites:
Advanced knowledge of building maintenance, including boilers, HVAC and other plant equipment, steam room and pool equipment. Knowledge of all concepts required to carry out their duties and responsibilities. Has a positive attitude, strong attention to detail, good communication skills and committed to delivering a high level of customer service. Flexible with their schedule including daytime and evening shifts, meeting the needs of the department and hotel.
**Education**:
Technical training in a trade and any relevant management course is an asset. Pool Operators Level 1 an asset.
**Experience**:
Minimum of 3 years maintenance/engineering experience in a hotel engineering department or similar environment.
**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 24 per week
**Salary**: From $23.00 per hour
