**WHAT YOU’LL DO**:
**To provide direction, leadership, support and guidance in day-to-day operations of Information Services including management of PC, network, help desk and data centre operations and technical support functions.**
- **Plans, organizes and monitors front-line service to ensure quality client service.**
- **Participates in the development of the I.S. strategic plan and other departmental plans as required.**
- **Provides input to the Director regarding budget preparation and monitoring.**
- **Participates in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures.**
- **Plans facilities, capacities, integration, upgrade paths and training requirements for technical infrastructure.**
- **Recommends purchases of infrastructure related hardware and software.**
- **Investigates new technology and stays current with IT trends.**
**Project Work/Operations Management**:
- **Schedules, tests, implements and monitors technical infrastructure upgrades.**
- **Implements new systems with users and I.S. staff.**
- **Manages processes to ensure proper security levels and user accounts for all systems.**
- **Ensures timely and accurate backups of systems and the safe/secure storage of backup media.**
- **Investigates technical support problems with users and other I.S. staff.**
- **Resolves problems by fixing and implementing solutions and new procedures.**
**Resource Management**:
- **Recruits, selects, orientates and trains Technical Support staff.**
- **Organizes workload, sets priorities and resolves conflicting priorities for staff.**
- **Manages performance on an ongoing basis and completes formal performance appraisals.**
- **Takes corrective supervisory action as required such as counselling and coaching employees requiring improvement and implements disciplinary measures when required.**
- **Promotes positive labour relations within the department.**
- **Maintains open communication with staff and promotes a team work and a client service focus.**
- **Resolves employee conflicts effectively.**
- **Promotes continued education and self-development of staff.**
- **Recognizes staff efforts and achievements.**
**WHAT YOU’LL BRING**:
**University Degree or College Diploma in Computer Science and five years’ experience working in a multi-platform technical support environment or equivalent education and work experience.**
**Demonstrated technical expertise and knowledge of network and mid-range operating systems, multi platform integration, distribution system hardware, PC hardware and operating systems.**
