Surface Logistics Superintendent

**Job Placement**:
The Surface Logistics Superintendent will be working on the Scarborough Subway Expansion Project.
**Description of Work**:
The Surface Logistics Superintendent will be responsible for working primarily on the surface throughout the project and assisting in the tunnel works when necessary. The Surface Logistics Superintendent will oversee a crew of workers ensuring the successful progression of the project.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Initiates, coordinates, directs and evaluates plans, schedules of all surface activities
- Ensures compliance with STRABAG Safety Program: perform regular hazard analysis
- Oversee and monitor surface logistic, organize soil sampling, muck hauling operations
- Organize subcontractor to ensure muck hauling operations are being conducted in a timely manner
- Ensures sufficient manpower is provided to achieve safety, schedule and quality objectives
- Prepares over all work plan and schedule in conjunction with Manager
- Reviews and provides assistance regarding quality assurance and control
- Monitors all site instructions and change notices and makes adjustments where required
- Proven ability to work proficiently in a product and project delivery-driven environment
- Experience developing controls-based physical layouts and documenting their operations
- Self-starting and able to track and maintain progress independently with the ability to work alone and as part of a diverse team of disciplines.
- Supervise, direct and maintain unionized workforce for all departments
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem
- Inspect equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes
- Advise management on whether continue operation of equipment could be hazardous
- Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including oscilloscopes, ammeters, and test lamps
- Perform business management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and ordering supplies and equipment
**Qualifications**:
- 3 years of progressive experience in the general construction industry as a Project Lean with a focus on large tunneling projects
- You effectively provide overall supervision, coordination, and scheduling of construction activities and consistently complete projects on time, on budget, and to the client’s satisfaction
- Proven ability to mentor and train
- A strong leader and problem-solver, you are able to build a steward trust with clients, subcontractors, and team members to effect competitive excellence and pride in teamwork with outstanding project delivery
- You have demonstrated competence in the areas of safety, workforce management, project execution, cost control, and quality and administration
- Sound knowledge of the construction and building techniques
**Knowledge and Skills**:
- A strong understanding and working knowledge of STRABAG’s Health and safety policies, Environment requirements along with the OHSA and it regulations
- Team player with excellent coordination and communication skills
- Strong results-focused leadership
- Ability to make critical decisions autonomously
- Ability to multi-task with attention to detail
- Fluent in English with strong written and verbal communication skills
