**2025 Skateboard Camp Counsellor - Summer Camps**:
Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator and Program Director - Camps, the Skateboard Camp Counsellor is accountable for teaching campers how to skateboard, focusing on both beginners and those looking to improve their skills, and implementing a safe, enjoyable and diverse program for participants aged 7-15 years. The Skateboard Camp Counsellor is responsible for the general supervision of participants at the park as well as ensuring the rules of the parks are being followed.

**Key Duties**:

- Instruct beginners on fundamental skills such as balancing, pushing, and stopping.
- Guide more experienced skaters through advanced tricks and techniques, including ollies, kickflips, and grinds.
- Emphasize the importance of safety gear and proper techniques to prevent injuries. Ensure protective gear is being worn at all times on participants and counsellors.
- Develops and implements a safe, enjoyable, and diverse program (including special events and theme days).
- Leads the camp through warm-up, basic skating activities and games. Teach new tricks and skills when participants are ready.
- Ensures the safety and well-being of all participants during program hours.
- Works cooperatively and maintains ongoing and effective communication with participants, parents, colleagues, and supervisors.
- Performs daily site checks and ensures that the necessary equipment and supplies are available in a safe condition.
- Takes appropriate action to deal with incidents/accidents and emergencies, as outlined in the departmental policies and procedures.
- Completes and submits administrative tasks (program plans, attendance forms, etc.) within the specified deadlines.
- Assists in the development and implementation of adaptive programming for participants with special needs.
- Responsible for daily opening and closing procedures at camp locations.
- Creates an environment that fosters a positive and inclusive program experience.
- Acts as a positive role model for program participants and other team members.

**Qualifications/Skills**:

- Must be a minimum of 16 years of age or older by June 11, 2025.
- Excellent organization, time management and planning skills.
- Self-motivated, positive, confident and approachable. Patience to work with students of varying skill levels
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision.
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to clearly explain techniques.
- Standard First Aid with CPR C (If hired, must be obtained by June 11, 2025).
- HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development (If hired, must be obtained by June 11, 2025)
- Able to provide a clear Criminal Reference / Vulnerable Sector check that is current (completed in the last six months), upon being hired.
- Must be available to work the full 8 weeks of Summer (June 30-August 22, 2025) including mandatory training dates (Orientation, BMST, Staff Training - dates listed below).

**Nice to Have**:

- Knowledge and experience related to the delivery of recreation/camp programs would be an asset.
- Preferred 1 year of experience working with children (i.e. babysitting).

**What is Offered to Staff**:

- Rate of Pay: $17.20 - $17.91 per hour.
- Hours of Work:

- Must be available to work Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from June 30, 2025 to August 22, 2025.
- Additional hours for Before and After Care may be required between the hours of 7:15 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

- Formal Interview - The week of March 31 - April 4, 2025
- Orientation/Health & Safety Training - June 11, 2025
- Summer Staff Training - June 14, 2025, June 17, 2025 & June 23-26, 2025
- Behaviour Management Systems Training - Full Certification - May 15, 2025, May 22, 2025 or June 16, 2025
- Behaviour Management Systems Training - Recertification - May 8, 2025, May 29, 2025 or June 5, 2025
- Camps / Playgrounds begin - June 30, 2025
- Camps / Playgrounds end - August 22, 2025*
- Contracts may be extended to end on August 29, 2025 for Camp Finale.
