**Position Summary**:
This position is responsible for assisting children to cross the road at intersections in a safe manner, on their way to and from school. They may instruct, teach and model safe street crossing for children. The Crossing Guard will ensure vehicle traffic is stopped prior to children entering roadway. Attending safety and related programs at school is an important part of this role. They will Liaise with school, police, town, parents and school bus drivers.
**What you will need**:
- Requires minimum of high school graduation
- 3 months relevant experience
- Keen alertness to surroundings and an ability to follow directions and procedures.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of mental concentration, with visual and hearing ability to recognize traffic at a safe distance (approx.300 feet).
- Ability to walk pedestrians safely across busy intersections, and react safely and decisively to traffic conditions.
- Ability to display a school crossing stop sign (weighing approximately two pounds) in an upright position so that it is visible to vehicular traffic approaching from all directions while extending the other arm parallel for one minute on a frequent basis
- Ability to perform the above-noted employment activities outside in diverse weather conditions.
- Successful applicant must submit to a police vulnerable sector check.
- Possess an excellent attitude and work ethic
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to deal with the public and respond to inquiries in a tactful and courteous manner
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
**What we offer**:
This is a casual opportunity with the Town. The hourly rate for this role is $17.73 to $20.74 (2024 Rate). The Town also offers the following to our casual employees:
