Part Time Student Support Specialist for Small Independent School

Pacific Spirit School is seeking a qualified Student Support Specialist for our elementary program who specializes in supporting sensory processing, self regulation and executive function. Duties will include classroom and outdoor support to students. Key skills needed: - ability to build trusting relationships, learn students’ cues and help co-regulate - model and teach regulation and communication skills - support students’ autonomy - have at least 2 years experience working with neurodivergent children in classroom and/or therapeutic settings - a developmental model for supporting student needs, rather than a behavioural model - belief that rewards are most effective when they are intrinsically embedded in experiencing positive results/personal "success", rather than when they are extrinsically applied - ability to work independently and also as a collaborative team member - understanding of Attachment Theory is also a preferred qualification Pacific Spirit is a small independent school (est. 1987) located in Jericho Hill Centre at 4196 W 4th Avenue, Vancouver, BC. Pacific Spirit currently enrolls approximately 65 students in grades K-11. Our school operates on a four day week, 9am-4pm Monday-Thursday. Our educational philosophy is one of attachment based education, and we employ a developmental approach to supporting students. Educators and staff connect with each student in a trusting, caring relationship as the foundation for learning experiences. Our programs are largely play-based in the early years, with increased academic focus in the intermediate age groupings emphasizing project and enquiry-based approaches.
