**Position Overview**:
The Principal, Digital Enterprise Architecture (PDEA) is a senior management level position providing direction and strategic thought leadership for the enterprise architecture program. This critical position is one of the first steps we are taking to deliver on our recently adopted Digital Burlington Vision, providing a unique and exciting opportunity to join at this exhilarating time. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, you will lead and grow a team of digital enterprise architects and be a key influencer in driving our digital transformation, technology modernization and optimization strategies (Vision 2040). You will partner with leadership across the City of Burlington to advise, influence, understand business goals/requirements, take in the long-range plan, help shape the overall program/project portfolio, and translate all inputs into a vision of cohesive technology standards and platforms that integrate into a sustainable/scalable architecture that serves business digital strategies. To perform effectively, the PDEA must deliver continuous and measurable technology improvements that propel the business forward while eliminating legacy systems to help reduce technical complexity and operational costs, all in accordance with our strategy. The individual in this role should have a strong background in Team Leadership, Technology Delivery and Architecture.
**Responsibilities**:
- Establish and institutionalize architecture governance practices and processes to ensure proper review, due diligence, and alignment across technology leadership of architecture recommendations (i.e., architecture review boards, architecture in-take, impact assessments, etc.);
- Identify and execute on opportunities to improve efficiency and delivery capability through automation and continuous improvement;
- Lead the documentation and development of multi-year product/capability roadmaps across a wide range of potential platforms;
- Build strong governance of technology to ensure safe and sound business solutions (availability, performance, security, scalability, and interoperability);
- Create an innovative and responsible culture that balances speed, flexibility and responsiveness with security, resiliency and sustainable practices;
- Provide leadership and technical advice to executive teams, peers and program/project managers to ensure enterprise services and systems are in place to implement digital process changes within and across the enterprise;
- Provide timely and high-quality reports and briefings on architecture roadmap, strategic initiatives and architecture metrics to executive leadership.
- Translate business needs into enterprise architecture requirements, and estimate the financial and architectural impact of enterprise architecture alternatives;
- Primary participant in the review of the request funnel for digital solutions and assesses their strategic and architectural fit to the enterprise, including directing the prioritization of initiatives.
- Effectively lead, mentor and motivate a diverse team to define, achieve and maintain exceptional performance while working in a high demand environment which requires prioritizing work assigned to the team.
**Requirements**:
**Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent - preferably B.Sc in Computer Science or equivalent technical discipline. Master’s degree, any enterprise architecture certification (i.e.TOGAF) and/or PMP would be a definite asset.**
- Experience: *
- 15 or more years in Information Technology in roles of increasing complexity;
- 4+ years' managing vendor relationships and working with professional engagements;
- Demonstrable knowledge of database structure and theory;
- Experience with Cloud and Hybrid networks;
- Possesses excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills with proven ability to champion causes with positive impact and change.
This position may require occasional travel between sites and/or City facilities and must provide own transportation.
