Youth Support Worker

**Overview of Position**
The Youth Support Worker is a key contact for ensuring the delivery of support and services for youth (ages 16-18) during critical transition periods, such as aging out of care. This role involves collaborating closely with delegated social workers and other community professionals to provide comprehensive services to youth during their transition.
**Preference will be given to applicants of First Nations ancestry as per Section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code, please self-identify.**

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Support Indigenous youth with the implementation of a Youth Transition Plan (YTC).
- Promote the development of the competencies essential to their successful transition to independence and adulthood.
- Support Indigenous youth with their needs as they transition out of care including: housing, self-care, money management, education, employment and available funding.
- Support Indigenous youth connect to culture, community resources and services that assist them in improving their current and future well-being.
- The services will focus primarily on the implementation of goals included in a Youth Transition Plan (YTC).
- Support and assist Indigenous youth in developing the life skills, supports and resilience essential to their successful transition to adulthood
- Develop relationships with other service providers involved in the delivery of service to youth in care.
**Skills, Abilities and Experience**:
- Knowledge and understanding of local culture, traditions and protocols.
- Ability to support Indigenous youth to identify needs, wants, strengths and goals.
- Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy, flexibility and good judgment.
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters related to youth in care.
- Patience to support and encourage youth shifting/growing through difficult times.
- The ability to communicate in written and verbal form.
- Utilize conflict resolution and de-escalation skills.
- The ability to build trust easily with youth, co-workers and other professionals
**Qualifications**:
Degree or Diploma in Social Services, or related discipline and 2- 4 years’ experiencein delivery of Social Services associated with Youth or Child and Family Services. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Acceptable criminal records check & valid BC Driver’s License with acceptabledrivers abstract and access to reliable transportation is required
**Salary**: $26 to $28 per hour, depending on experience.
**How to Apply**:

Expected hours: 35 per week
