**The Program**

WJS Canada's Family Resilience Program provides support to parents/caregivers of children ages 7 to 18 in Vegreville and the surrounding communities. Together they create a culturally responsive, customized plan based on best practices and the family's specific needs. These individualized supports help work towards life changing results for the family.

Individuals, community agencies, government services, teachers, victim supports and caregivers themselves can refer families to our program.

**In Your Role You Will**
- Travel to family homes, meet them at the library, in a park, at the office, virtually and/or in communities within the service area contract, in your own vehicle - travel reimbursed.
- Evening/occasional weekend work is required, as this is the time when families with children are together which can be a stressful time for families.
- Establish trusting relationships with families and their children, while assisting them in the development of interpersonal, communication skills, routines, and other areas of interest.
- Connect families with support networks, outside agencies and community resources and organize ongoing service delivery.
- Support parents/caregivers in building stronger self-assurance, conflict management skills, addiction and mental health support and other needs identified by the family.
- Electronic client file management

**The Position**

In the privacy of their own homes and communities the Family Support Worker supports families to find ways to successfully and safely raise their children by building on their strengths and learning new skills such as understanding the importance of healthy daily routines, family connection, developmental milestones and parent-teen conflict resolution.

Services often include building a sustainable community support network to foster resilience and ensure future growth and success.

**Qualification requirements deem this to be Family Support Worker level 2.**

This position requires a reliable vehicle which must clear inspection by licensed mechanic, as travel to/within Vegreville and nearby communities is necessary.

**Criminal Record Check/Ministry Check Statement**

** Prior to confirmation of employment all applicants must provide a current (dated within 6 months of hiring date) Criminal Record Check and Ministry Check. These checks can take up to 6 weeks to obtain, please ensure you prepare accordingly.**
- Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Work, Psychology, Sociology, Mental Health and Addictions, etc.
- 2+ years social work experience in family support/intervention, youth work, trauma, etc.
- Valid Alberta Driver’s License, reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance and suitable driver’s abstract
- Previous experience developing community events/projects to engage with youth and families, is desirable.
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture and cultural sensitivity training is an asset
- Suicide Intervention and Prevention Training
- Experience working with computer software systems (word, excel, data systems)
- Highly motivated and able to work independently
