Canadian Mental Health Association Durham is an integrated community mental health and primary care hub that has been providing mental health services to Durham Region for over 60 years.

During that time, it has evolved to provide a broad range of services to individuals and their families experiencing mental health challenges, from information and education to case management, psychosocial rehabilitation, housing and primary healthcare. These services are provided through inter-professional teams focused on providing clinically based services that, in addition to dealing with client mental health issues, address social determinants of health using the recovery model.

Our Recovery College and Wellness Centre is looking to hire a Peer Support Specialist - 6 month contract.

**Responsibilities**
- Recruits, trains and coaches the peer supporters in their role to support individuals attending the Recovery College Wellness Centre
- Schedules, organizes, facilitates and assesses training for peer supporters
- Participates in focus groups to determine co-designed curriculum
- Assists the Adult Educators with preparing and researching material necessary for facilitation of courses
- Completes and maintains accurate peer supporter records and reports
- Provides information and promotes the peer support model
- Supports peers in decision making processes
- Provides individual or group peer support for individuals attending the Recovery College Wellness Centre
- Documents client contacts, creates daily logs, summaries and completes reports in a timely manner, as outlined in the CMHA Durham policies and procedures
- Participates in meeting accreditation standards
- Performs other tasks as assigned by management

**Requirements**:

- Transferable lived experience
- Post-secondary education (i.e. human and social services) and a minimum of one year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, Employment Standards Act, social service benefits and related legislation in Ontario
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team to respond to individuals who may require immediate services/supports
- Ability to work sensitively with people of diverse backgrounds who experience poverty/ discrimination
- Ability to inspire and motivate others
- Ability to develop and maintain a positive relationship with individuals
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills
- Ability to organize and present information
- Ability to participate as a member of a high performance multi-service team
- Works a variable work schedule, which may include evenings and weekends, as required
- Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook), as well as the internet
