Barber Massage Specialist

We're a barber shop in Carp, a town just west of Ottawa, serving mostly men but also provide styling and hair cutting for women on certain days. Carp is a small town, but Giacinto's is the only barbershop. It is located next to the main intersection.

We're offering an experimental, commission-based opportunity for a student in massage therapy at our barber shop in Carp, Ottawa.

**What is Barber Massage?**

Traditionally, barber shops offered quick and casual massage (and still do in many parts of the world) but it never gained mainstream popularity in North America.

These are not complete, deep-work massages. They're informal, quick, lower-cost, and performed through clothing with mínimal or no product. The closest mainstream equivalent would be chair massage (which we are also open to trying out at our shop if you are trained to do so)

The basic principles of massage still apply, but you are limited to the head, neck, shoulders and arms.

**We believe massage should return to mainstream barbering, and would also like to provide a lower-cost alternative for those who are uninsured, cannot afford or who have not tried regular massage therapy.**

**Details**

This is a commission-based/independent contractor arrangement.
- **No licensing is needed**, as this is not registered massage therapy
- Flexible, starts at one or two days per week, at any times you want during our hours
- You start at keeping **50% of retail price for services, plus 100% of tips**:

- There is **no regular salary or employee contract**.
- Everyday supplies (hot towels, oil, etc) are available at no charge
- Massage is performed in the open, in a barber chair or massage chair (bring your own or we can provide one if preferred)
- You can use our payment system to accept credit/debit, **we will pay the fees**:

- You can use and integrate with our booking system (Square) at no charge
- You will be promoted and featured on our website and other materials
- You can offer massage to our existing barbershop and salon clientele (300+ unique visitors this year)

**We're looking for Ottawa Metro Area residents only, preferably nearer to Carp.**

This is the perfect opportunity for a massage therapy student who wants a flexible, stress-free start in the industry or who just wants some more hours or a side gig while they're in training.

**Job Type**: Part-time

Pay: $20.00-$40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 5 - 20 per week
