Laurier's Milton campus is located on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, and part of the Nanfan Treaty of 1701 between the British Crown and the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. ***Position Summary**: This position’s responsibility is to be the lead financial resource for the Student Affairs portfolio. The Student Affairs units include the Office of Student Affairs, the Dean of Students portfolio, Athletics & Recreation, Experiential Learning & Career Development Centre, Development Student Affairs and Student Success and Retention. The incumbent will provide strategic financial and analytical support and will include monthly monitoring and analysis of the financial operations, budgets, and business plans. It will include timely reporting and developing business cases for emerging trends and revitalization strategies. This position provides day to day direction to the Athletics Financial Operations Administrator. The incumbent is responsible for working with senior leadership in both the Student Affairs team and Financial Resources (Finance) departments to develop and implement the student affairs financial strategy, managing the budget and participating in special projects related to the student experience. The incumbent does this by: - Developing and implementing a financial strategy for the student affairs portfolio in alignment with the strategic documents and priorities of the department and Wilfrid Laurier University; - Ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, and institutional financial policies, procedures, and legislation; - Developing, implementing, and ensuring compliance with student affairs specific financial policies and procedures; - Developing, managing, and providing oversight for the student affairs budget; - Providing quarterly summary reports, and budget projection reports to the Unit Leaders within the Student Affairs portfolio ; - Assisting the Associate Director, Strategic Operations with special projects; - Collaborating with all campus partners; - Leading, coaching, and mentoring the Financial Operations Administrator to ensure that all invoices, journal vouchers, and other financial data is current and correct. The incumbent reports directly to the Director, Budget & Planning with a dotted line report to the Director, Strategic Operations. The incumbent will work closely with the student affairs management team in addition to other Financial Resources management leaders to monitor, analyze and report on budgets and actual performance. The incumbent will be required to use complex financial methods to create modelling, scenario, differential, costing, and investment return analysis to help inform recommendations for day-to-day, short and long-term strategic initiatives. The reporting requirements and engagement in financial sustainability initiatives has become an important part of the expectations of the student affairs team. The position will be required to access highly confidential information that is sensitive for the direction and planning of the university. Review processes may often involve strategic human resource impacts and strategic business case analyses. There are a significant number of financial processes that are completed at the department level across the student affairs portfolio that are completed by other staff. The manager will work with those individuals to ensure alignment of reporting requirements, compliance to finance processes as well as ongoing review for
