Tunnel Superintendent

**Job Summary**
The Broadway Subway Project Corporation (BSPC) is an Acciona-Ghella general partnership to deliver a 5.7 km extension of the Millennium Line, from VCC-Clark Station to Broadway and Arbutus. Once complete, it will provide fast, frequent and convenient service to B.C.’s second largest jobs center, world-class health services, an emerging innovation and research hub, and growing residential communities.

The main function of a Superintendent is to coordinate all direct report site employees, plant resources and subcontract teams to achieve quality and safety objectives in accordance with the project programs and schedules.

**Responsibilities**
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to the safety and health framework, policies and management system requirements and expectations;
- Develop and maintain an awareness of hazards and associated risks and demonstrate a commitment to eliminate or minimize those risks;
- Understand and effectively undertake accountabilities.
- Maintaining a comprehensive working knowledge of the contract, the specifications, the safety and environmental regulations
- Effectively coordinating and supervising the utilization of all on-site resources for the project
- Ensuring all workers are inducted onto site before commencing work
- Monitoring construction progress and compliance to safety and environmental standards
- Ensuring accurate timesheets are submitted to the pay office within specified timeframes
- Managing site security and material/plant deliveries and storage and general housekeeping
- Ensure all operations are performed in accordance with agreed safe methods of work
- Forward planning daily/weekly/monthly construction work including resource requirements and trade coordination
- Managing the work performance of self and direct reports
- Actively liaising with subcontractors and suppliers
- Ensuring subcontractors act safety and comply with safety requirements
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements and all relevant Company and Joint Venture policies and processes.
- Plan, organize, direct, and coordinate the works on site in liaison with the subcontractors and stakeholders;
- Ensure work is performed to the required safety and quality standards, through both scheduled and non-scheduled site checks to ensure compliance with policies & procedures;
- Ensuring site safety processes implementation, in particular the excavation permit process;
- Hands-on attitude, anticipating critical tasks and ensuring site coordination with all JV teams;
- Proactively address potential and actual issues, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives;
- Acting as a team player, ensuring great daily communication with the team;
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members;
- Demonstrate ability to establish and nurture relationships with all site teams and authorities;
- Report on subcontractor’s performance;
- Provide feedback and lessons learnt from site experience;
- Oversee delivery works of subcontractors works, ensuring compliance and records with QUU requirements;
- Ensure that daily pre start meetings are held across projects;
- Review incidents/near misses in accordance with safety procedures;
- Ensure the team is adequately trained to safely and effectively fulfil their role.

Experience/ Qualifications
- Minimum 8 years relevant experience with a minimum 3 years’ experience as a Supervisor within Tunneling
- Managed self and resources to deliver work to between $10M and $50M
- Demonstrated commercial experience to include planning up to 1 month ahead and monitoring cost and time of resources within area of accountability

Pay: $140,000.00-$145,000.00 per year
