**JOIN OUR TEAM**
We are looking for a motivated **Youth Settlement Worker to join our Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) program team
**POSITION FUNCTION**:
- Under the supervision of the** Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS)** program Manager, the Youth Settlement Worker will provide enhanced settlement support to newcomer immigrant youth in the New Westminster Secondary School, focusing on students (ages 13-19). The Youth Settlement Worker works with immigrant youth facing social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties, weak academic backgrounds due to education gaps, poor school attendance, and disengagement from school and community resources. The Youth Settlement Worker will provide pre-employment support and services for youth (ages 15-19).
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Child and Youth Care Counselling, or a combination of related post-secondary education and two years of experience in relevant work
- **Having a minimum of 2 years of experience in an educational setting, preferably in a school, is essential.**:
- Ability to intervene effectively in crises relating to students from diverse backgrounds and to provide lay counselling to immigrant teens, an asset
- Sound knowledge of cultural differences and integration issues and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school staff, students and parents
- Ability to speak, read and write fluently in English, a secondary language, will be considered an asset
- Language skills are an asset for Tigrinya, Farsi, Ukrainian
- Organized and able to set priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate with other SWIS staff to support communication between school staff and parents regarding student progress in the school and the programs
- Having experience in employment services and programs or receiving employment training is an advantage.

**DUTIES OR RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Be familiar with MOSAIC’s vision, mission, strategic plan, and integrated client service delivery approach and remain current with CARD standards and practices.
- Act as a positive mentor for the students to promote and encourage student engagement in school and community programs, particularly for students with poor attendance
- Work with school/district staff to plan cross-cultural sessions and workshops to bridge cultures by understanding immigrant and integration issues
- Facilitate information and orientation sessions and in-class presentations for newcomer youth
- Conduct individual student needs assessment, referrals, and follow-up sessions and meetings with students and their parents
- Support immigrant youth with their resume, cover letter, mock interviews, and volunteering
- Performs related duties as required for the job
- Maintain and submit monthly reports electronically and in paper format
**HOURS: Full Time (35 Hours per week)**
**WORKING MONTHS**:September to June (8 weeks lay off during July & August)
**SCHEDULE**: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm - Monday to Friday
(Some weekends and before or after-school hours, may be required)
