**Key Responsibilities**:
As an Assistant Grower, your role will be hands-on and dynamic, with the primary goal of ensuring optimal plant growth and productivity. Working closely with the Production Growers, your duties will include:
- Oversee daily crop care and management, including irrigation, fertilization, and pest control.
- Monitor plant health and growth, identifying issues such as disease, nutrient deficiencies, or pest infestations, and take corrective action.
- Develop and implement crop schedules, ensuring optimal growing conditions for different plant varieties.
- Lead a team in executing hands-on tasks like pruning, transplanting, and potting.
- Utilize Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies to maintain a healthy crop environment.
- Ensure the proper operation and maintenance of greenhouse systems, including climate control, irrigation systems, and other automated growing equipment.
- Collaborate with the production team to align growing schedules with sales and shipping demands.
- Participate in soil and water testing, adjusting inputs to maintain optimal growing conditions.
- Conduct trials for new plant varieties, recording growth data and adjusting care practices accordingly.
- Train and mentor staff in horticultural best practices and techniques, ensuring consistent care standards.
- Ensure that all plant production processes comply with industry standards for health, safety, and sustainability.
**Who We’re Looking For**:
- **Experienced in Horticulture**: You have a GED or equivalent in Horticulture or Agriculture, and at least 2-3 years of hands-on experience growing plants in a nursery, greenhouse, or similar environment. Your knowledge of plant nutrition, pests, and diseases is second to none.
- **A Natural Leader**: You have proven leadership skills, with experience managing teams in a horticultural setting. You know how to motivate and coach staff while fostering a culture of respect and growth.
- **Detail-Oriented**: You have a sharp eye for plant health and quality and can spot issues before they become problems.
- **Tech-Savvy**: You’re comfortable using technology to track data, manage tasks, and keep the team on schedule.
- **Adaptable**: You can handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, changing environment, and you’re always ready to roll up your sleeves and get the job done.
- **Physically Fit**: You’re capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and can work long hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays when needed.
