Job Summary
The International Programs & Transfer Credit Advisor role sits within Engineering Academic Services (EAS) and is responsible for providing leadership that supports international educational opportunities for students enrolled in the BASc., and B.Des. programs at the Vancouver campus. The International Programs & Transfer Credit Advisor is required to maintain an in-depth understanding of the requirements and options in all programs to provide accurate and consistent advice for students, faculty, and staff.
Responsibilities for this role include the development, implementation, marketing, delivery, and evaluation of all activities and advising services related to the Applied Science (APSC) student international experience to fulfill the Faculty’s mandate to increase student enrolment in international opportunities while ensuring student’s overall success. This includes marketing opportunities to students, assessing and evaluating current offerings, and updating current programs and opportunities.
Occasional evening and weekend work will be required.
Organizational Status
This position works as a member of the UBC Engineering Academic Services (EAS) team and reports to the Associate Director, Admissions & Enrolment. The incumbent will also interact regularly with the Go Global student mobility team, APSC Dean’s Office, CIE faculty and program advisors and the student service personnel within the faculty at the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses. This position works with considerable autonomy under broad direction from the EAS Associate Director, Admissions & Enrolment. Receives direction from the Director, Marketing & Communications to ensure initiatives align with brand standards and APSC marketing and communications strategies.
Work Performed
Transfer Credits
- Maintain, update and continually improve the APSC-specific transfer credit database.
- Be the main point of contact and lead advisor for anything related to transfer credits within the BASc program including:
- training academic advisors in EAS on transfer credits
- responding to complex transfer credit inquiries from students
- conducting transfer credit advising
- liaising with the Undergraduate Admissions Office on the transfer credits updates to the student record
- identify the articulated credits that are escalated to the Undergraduate Admissions Office to update UBC’s database
Student Advising
- This role advises all BASc., B.EnD., and B.Des. students on international learning opportunities. Additionally, the role is responsible for advising transfer students in engineering on transfer credits and their utilization in the degree requirements. Responsibilities include:
- Assess and interpret student’s academic and personal goals and academic performance to provide advisory service to support students in developing a holistic academic plan taking in consideration the student’s academic, personal and professional goals.
- Guide students through course selection research at partner universities, from a list of pre-articulated transfer credit assessments, to ensure pre-requisites and continuation requirements are met, and degree requirements will be fulfilled in consult with the students’ program advisors.
- Advise students prior, during and post international experience, exercising judgment in forwarding and communicating relevant inquiries to the Associate Director, Admissions & Enrolment.
