**Position Summary**:
Applicants must be at least 15 years of age to apply, provide their LSS ID and hold a valid:

- Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification.
- National Lifeguard - Pool or Swim & Lifesaving Instructor with Bronze Cross certifications.

Aquatic Attendant, Lifeguard & Swim Instructor.
Salary Range: $17.20 To $20.90 (CAD) Hourly (effective October 2024)
Reporting to the Aquatic Supervisor and Aquatic Coordinator.

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**:
Aquatic Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of all patrons in and around the aquatic facility, by preventing and responding to all emergencies and maintaining a safe aquatic environment.

Aquatic Swim Instructors are responsible for teaching, delivering, and evaluating the Lifesaving Society’s Swim for Life and Lifesaving programs in accordance with program standards. The Aquatic Swim Instructor will lead specific drills/instruction according to prepared lesson plans while creating a fun, safe and positive learning environment to participants of all ages.

All successful applicants must become fully certified with Standard First Aid with CPR-C, National Lifeguard - Pool and Swim & Lifesaving Instructor certifications prior to their second session of employment (3-4 months).

Employees are responsible to recertify all their required awards before they expire.
All Standard First Aid & CPR-C awards expire 3 years from the date of certification.
Lifesaving Society awards expire 2 years from the date of certification.
(Bronze Cross, National Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, Lifesaving Instructor & Emergency First Aid Instructor)

Applicants that are certified with current Standard First Aid with CPR-C, National Lifeguard - Pool, Swim & Lifesaving Instructors, will be considered first.
Ensure you have a valid Social Insurance Number before applying. This is required for all employment within Canada.

**Education and Experience**:
All Aquatic positions require Standard First Aid with CPR-C recognized by WSIB.
**Aquatic Swim Instructor I**($20.90): Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification, National Lifeguard - Pool certification, Swim Instructor & Lifesaving Instructor certifications.
**Aquatic Swim Instructor II**($18.80): Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification, Bronze Cross certification, Swim Instructor & Lifesaving Instructor certifications.
**Aquatic Lifeguard** ($18.80): Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification, National Lifeguard - Pool certification.
**Aquatic Attendant** ($17.20): Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification, Bronze Cross certification.
Aquatic Volunteer experience with the City of Richmond Hill is an asset.

**Required Skills/Knowledge**:
Demonstrate and maintain the following physical standards:
**Object Recovery & Transport**: Starting in the water, swim 15m and surface dive to recover an object from bottom of deep end, surface and carry the object 5m. National Lifeguard applicants must recover a 20lb object, Bronze Cross applicants must recover a 10lb object.
**Approach & Tow/Carry**: Starting in the water, approach 15m head-up to contact a distressed victim in deep water, carry/tow the victim 5m supporting victim’s shoulders at the surface and head above the surface.
**Spinal Rescues**: Starting in the water, approach a suspected spinal injured victim in water, immobilize, roll victim over and move where required.
**Rescue Drill**: Starting in the water, swim to recover a submerged manikin 20m away, carry the manikin 20m with its mouth and nose above the surface throughout.
**Speed**: Swim 50 meters in 60 seconds or less.
**Endurance**: Swim 400 meters in 10 minutes or less.

Ability to perform rescue skills at or above the level of your certification. Ability to work as part of an effective aquatic team. Excellent customer service and communication skills both verbal and written. Be familiar with and execute the City of Richmond Hill aquatic emergency procedures. Demonstrates good judgment and makes sound decisions. Show commitment to personal growth, development, and leadership opportunities.
