Selkirk Home Hardware Building Centre is looking for a professional and accountable Order Picker to work in our lumberyard. The Order Picker is responsible for preparing lumber and materials to fulfill orders for pick-up and delivery. They also help to maintain the yard, its merchandise, and customer needs as they arise.

**JOB DESCRIPTION**:
The Order Picker is an integral role that contributes to the smooth operation of the lumber yard and ensures a positive customer experience. The Order Picker spends most of their day preparing orders for pick-up and delivery. This includes reading orders, gathering the required lumber and materials, and packaging these materials to make them available for the customer. The Order Picker must have a strong attention to detail to maintain order accuracy. They load, unload, and store materials using a variety of equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, and lumber carts. The Order Picker must be a team player and conduct themselves in a professional manner while performing all tasks with sufficient speed and accuracy to support store efficiency and a high level of customer service.

**HOURS**:

- Monday to Friday, every second Saturday

**TASKS, DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behaviour to management to have the situation corrected
- Assist the Shipper to prepare and organize orders for delivery
- Pick lumber and materials to fulfill orders with sufficient speed and accuracy
- Safely operate equipment, including forklifts, lumber carts, pallet jacks, etc.
- Bundle lumber utilizing the banding machine
- Load and unload materials
- Store material in the correct location in the yard
- Restock lumber bins, sheds, etc. when they are depleted
- Keep the yard clean and the inventory neat and orderly.
- Check incoming merchandise against orders or invoices to identify damaged goods, shortages, and back orders
- Assist customers with product information and direct them to the Lumber Desk for installations and other advice
- Be aware of theft and act in line with company policy to report and/or discourage it
- Participate in training, assessments, and meetings as directed by the Yard Personnel Manager
- Support new employees in training

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Ability to work a flexible schedule including holidays.
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English
- Ability to read and comprehend written and printed materials, as well as information presented in numerical form.
- Must be able to work well independently and as part of a team
- Previous forklift and/or lumber experience is considered an asset.

**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**:

- Able to lift, push and pull up to 75 pounds
- Ability to spend a majority of the shift standing/on foot
- Ability to be certified to operate powered equipment/forklifts
- Ability to work outside in seasonal weather conditions

**WORKING RELATIONSHIPS**:

- This position reports directly to the Yard Personnel Manager.
- The Order Picker works closely with the yard’s Shipper and Yard Associates
