**LOCATION**: This is a Telehealth position and can be done remotely from anywhere in Canada
**DESCRIPTION**:
This recruitment is for one part-time position working on a virtual care platform which offers comprehensive and episodic primary care as well as specialist services (including Adult and Pediatric Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Vulnerable Populations/2SLGBTQIA+ Health).
Duties specific to this role will include but are not limited to:
- In collaboration with a compassionate and collaborative team of Addiction Medicine Physicians, Physician Assistant colleagues and 24/7 Addiction Medicine Patient Care Coordinator (PCCs) administrative support, completion of comprehensive intake assessments and longitudinal care of patients presenting with a substance use concern and/or substance use disorder, including:
- Diagnosis of all substance use disorders
- Medical management of all substance use disorders, including withdrawal management and anti-craving therapy
- Initial management of concurrent medical and psychiatric disorders
- Internal and external specialist referrals when indicated
- Trauma-informed and patient-centered care
- Motivational interviewing
- Harm reduction education
- Infectious diseases screening
- Urine broad spectrum toxicology (BST) and ethyl glucuronide screening as appropriate
- Care plans integrated with existing virtual and in-person psychosocial and addiction services
- Participate actively in an on-call program
- Cross coverage of patients for urgent addiction medicine concerns, including withdrawal management
- Evaluation of patients at partner facilities, including emergency departments, inpatient units, withdrawal management services and shelters
- Communication with and transfer-of-care to family physicians upon stabilization
- Completion of Ministry of Transportation medical condition reports and substance use assessment forms
- General duties not specific to this role, which may occasionally be required:
- Reviewing incoming results for physicians and actioning as appropriate.
- Creating and implementing preventative care and management plans for certain patients.
- Assisting with the Rocket Doctor home devices program
- Offering primary care service in our PA continuity of care clinic under the indirect supervision of the Rocket Doctor Physicians.
Wage will range from $40-52/hour depending on the applicant and experience, with opportunities to increase based on performance reviews.
**REQUIREMENTS**:
- This job requires access to excellent internet, a computer with built in camera functionality, and access to a smart phone with Canada-wide calling.
- You will be required to maintain standards of professionalism including but not limited to confidentiality, documentation, product development, and organization.
- No travel is required for this position.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Graduate of a university accredited Physician Assistant Program
- Member of the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants with CCPA designation
- Clinical experience as a Physician Assistant, particularly in primary care or emergency medicine, is preferred though not mandatory
- Clinical experience in Telehealth is preferred though not mandatory
- Excellent assessment and diagnostic skills
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills
