The Opportunity:
As Manager, Strategic Communications, you’ll own the thought leadership and data storytelling functions for ApplyBoard. You’ll manage a team of senior copywriters while setting the strategy and owning the delivery of many of our highest-profile communication initiatives, including the

ApplyInsights

data blog, industry reports, white papers, executive social, and more. If you’re a natural leader, have a passion for communications, and want your words to change lives, this position is for you.

What you’ll do in the role:
- Manage, coach, and mentor a team of exceptional copywriters and delightful human beings to support the planning and execution of all strategic communications for the organization.- Develop ApplyBoard’s strategic communications strategy and calendar of deliverables, assigning work to copywriters, ensuring deadlines are met, and ensuring top-quality content is produced.- Build and maintain relationships with ApplyBoard’s leadership team in order to support the development and execution of ApplyBoard’s executive communications strategy.- Use content to further ApplyBoard’s position as a thought leader in the EdTech space, building brand awareness and driving engagement.- Gain a deep understanding of the international education landscape and ApplyBoard’s operations to develop relevant and informed content.- Plan, craft, and review compelling content that resonates with ApplyBoard’s target audiences (students, recruitment professionals, institutions) across various formats, including web copy, blogs, webinars, case studies, testimonials, and presentations.- Source, organize, and analyze large amounts of raw data to craft strategic, data-driven communications across a variety of formats, including industry trends reports, white papers, and infographics.- Review all content produced by the Strategic Communications team and assist with content reviews for other members of the Marketing team.- Collaborate with other members of the Marketing team to turn content into various formats, providing direction on design and distribution.- Facilitate content brainstorming sessions.-
- Track content performance and adjust strategy to optimize reach.

What you bring to the table:
- You’ve got something like 7+ years of professional writing and editing experience in a fast-paced environment, ideally in tech.- You’re an exceptional writer, storyteller, and communicator.- You’re a conscientious proofreader with extremely strong attention to detail. Very little gets by you, and when it does, you’re a little annoyed about it.- You’re as comfortable working in a spreadsheet as you are in a word doc and you get a bit of a thrill out of telling stories with data.- You’re confident working with senior leaders—and not afraid to share your thoughts at the right moment.- You enjoy leading people and have experience managing or mentoring copywriters or other marketing specialists.- You treat others with kindness and respect, and people enjoy working with you because of it.- You’re organized, you’re able to prioritize effectively among a high volume of tasks, and you never miss a deadline that’s within your control.- You have a strong understanding of SEO best practices and principles.- You’re a self-starter and a problem solver.- You like to have fun at work once in a while.
