**Role Summary**

**Main Responsibilities**:

- Keep Chief Risk Officer, Asia well-informed on all risk and relevant business maters and issues, seeking input where required
- Serve as a key member of SLI’s leadership team, contributing to the development and implementation of the organization’s strategy and act as the risk advisor to the team
- Monitor the day-to-day operation of the business by 1st line management and advise on emerging risks, risk mitigation strategies and risk appetite limits
- Coordinate and communicate the reporting of risk events (incident reporting), key risks and emerging risks in line with Sun Life’s risk management and reporting framework
- Facilitate the development and monitoring of remediation action plans for risk breaches and events when they occur
- Coordinate and/or conduct key risk management exercises, such as Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs)
- Maintain an active and constructive partnership with other HuBS risk officers as well as the Asia risk management team
- Provide first level challenge of business initiatives, including strategic initiatives, new product ideas, reinsurance transactions, operational initiatives, and so forth.
- Act with a degree of independence from front-line management, with a focus on enabling good decision-making by considering the risk implications of business proposals
- Working closely with the Chief Actuary, SLI, coordinate SL International’s Earnings-at-Risk (EaR) and Capital-at-Risk (CaR) limit setting, monitoring and management to ensure any emerging early warning or limit breaches are socialized and remedied promptly and the business has sufficient risk capacity to execute on its strategic objectives
- Chair International Risk Management Committee (IRMC) meeting whose primary function is to oversee the overall risk profile, risk appetite, risk management strategies and the implementation of those strategies in the International business unit.
- Serve on various governance and oversight-focused committees and subsidiary boards, as required
- Lead a small and dynamic team of risk management professionals. Provide value added leadership and support to the risk team in SLI.

**Key Requirements**:

- 15+ years’ in-depth experience in the life insurance industry, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in enterprise risk management.
- University degree (Bachelor’s degree or higher).
- Strong, hands-on technical, quantitative risk analysis, and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated, organized and able to manage multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy while working toward challenging goals and deadlines.
- A strong team player with demonstrated experience collaborating with others and in managing teams effectively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to confidently and clearly communicate complex issues to a variety of audiences.
- Strong influencing skills to engage senior leadership and partners
- Willingness to work non-standard hours, oftentimes having to liaise with other Sun Life offices after regular office hours, due to these being located in other time zones.
- Cultural awareness and openness to persons from an array of different countries and backgrounds.
- Ability to balance the paradoxical objectives of asserting independence in providing effective challenge to business propositions, while acting as a trusted advisor and enabler of business strategy.
