The Classroom Educator is responsible for implementing and executing activities and program delivery based on How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for Early Years in either the BGCB’s Toddler or Preschool program(s). This position may provide guidance and direction to placement students and volunteers. This position may be held in an ECE, non, ECE, or Supply capacity.

Monday through Friday - as per working schedule - FT - 37.5/40 hours per week; PT Varies

Due to the nature of the Club's business, staff cannot always be confined rigidly to a definite schedule of hours - 'flex' time WILL be required

**TRAINING**:
Education: Post Secondary Diploma/Degree in Early Childhood Education; Registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE) preferred

Qualifications: Current First Aid/CPR

Experience: 1-3 years previous experience working within a licensed childcare environment or similar would be an asset

**MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Program Delivery_
- Operates program in compliance with the Childcare Early Years Act.
- Provides an environment and program supplies that are safe and free from any hazards to children.
- Conducts daily health checks of children, records illness and contacts parents when necessary.
- Updates self and other staff of children’s allergies and other special health conditions.
- Ensures documentation is posted and displayed for parents and children to view.
- Adheres to best practices for maintaining health records and administering medication.
- Performs administrative tasks such as recording attendance, answering phone, completing accident/incident report or medication reports.
- Records daily in program log, any deviations in program/meals, behavioural issues, outside visits (ie. fire, health) and any other information pertaining to the day.
- Submits requests for program supplies and/or equipment to Supervisor.
- Cooperatively with supervisor, suggests, plans and/or implements parent workshops, open houses, and special events as per agency requirements, family needs and/or recommendations.
- Uses the Pedagogy framework to design program content that is specific to creating goals for children that support self-regulation, identity, social inclusion, health and well-being, language & thinking skills, and physical literacy. Document observations on activities to post for families to read and or for children to reflect back on.
- Ensures program plan provides opportunities for active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, and individual and group activities.
- Evaluates programs (soliciting feedback from Assistant Teacher, children, and families) and make recommendations to modify/enhance programming and improve the effectiveness of meeting developmental, social, and cultural needs of children.
- Observes and assesses children’s progress and behaviour to ensure programs meet identified individual and group needs.
- In cooperation with families, utilizes the developmental screening tool.
- As directed by supervisor utilizes environmental assessment tool.
- Attends to toileting, diapering needs of children as required, including toilet training.
- Health and Safety_
- Ensures that program areas and their equipment maintain a level of safety and in a state that reflects the high standards of the organization. Toys and equipment are sanitized as needed (i.e.. Increased frequency during times of illness). Safety concerns are reported to the supervisor.
- Administers First Aid/CPR as necessary.
- Conducts daily playground check to ensure space and environment meets safety requirements.
- The position has no financial responsibilities
- Physical Demands_

There are high physical demands associated with this position such as lifting up to 50lbs, bending, squatting, sitting, twisting, reaching, etc..
- Working Conditions_

Position works in an air conditioned environment, however, is also required to provide several hours of outdoor programming during all seasons (spring, summer, fall and winter)

Due to the number of children serviced the working environment can be extremely loud during peak hours of operation.

The environment can be fast paced and demanding - position is required to be extremely resourceful, ‘think quick on their feet’, manage multiply tasks and issues, able to prioritize and resolve issues effectively, thoroughly, and effectively.

**SUPERVISION**

Character - Position is responsible for the direct supervision of children

Scope - This position is responsible to provide guidance and mentoring moments to placement students and/or volunteers, however, is not responsible for the direct supervision/evaluation of any Club leader(s), students or volunteers on a regular basis
