Part Time Campus Security and Maintenance Officer

This position reports to the Security and Maintenance Supervisor

**SPECIFIC DUTIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES**:
**Security and Patrol**
- Conduct regular patrols of the campus to deter crime, ensure safety, and identify security risks, as well as inspect facilities for maintenance issues.
- Investigate disturbances, and respond promptly to emergencies, providing first aid and coordinating with local emergency services as necessary. See reporting below.
- Provide assistance to Student Patrol and Residence Dons when required during student emergencies.
- Provide assistance to Facilities Management during maintenance emergencies.
- Enforce college security policies and regulations, ensuring a secure environment for all campus members and visitors.
- Assist during special events with crowd control, and enforcement of fire safety and alcohol regulations.
- Assist Residence with Student Patrol activities.
- Write parking tickets.
- Enforce smoking policy.

**Access Control**
- Provide access control to classrooms and common areas, including unlocking and locking building exterior doors at set hours according to schedules. Provide access to offices and other areas in communication with staff and faculty, including after-hours and unplanned access.
- Assist Facilities Management staff, when requested, to provide accompaniment when entering Residence rooms.
- Provide traffic control during special events and emergencies.

**Maintenance and Custodial Inspections and Coordination**
- Daily inspection of campus facilities to determine compliance with relevant safety standards, especially slip and trip hazards and weather-related hazards such as snow removal and water infiltration. Provide immediate remedy to mitigate any hazard when possible, or obtain the assistance from the appropriate custodial or Facilities personnel when needed. Verify mitigation of all hazards and report (see reporting below).
- Daily inspection of campus to find areas requiring the immediate attention of custodial services. Inform the custodial personnel and oversee the remedy.
- Weekly perform thorough inspections of campus infrastructure to identify non-emergency repair needs, and safety issues, and submit work orders for remedy.
- Prioritize maintenance and custodial issues based on urgency and safety importance, reporting issues to the custodial team and facilities management for timely remedy.
- Inspect and verify that the remedies to issues have been completed in satisfactory and timely manner.
- Responsible to maintain flag protocols, including the daily raising and lower of flags as well as the hanging of special flags for specific events and holidays.
- Other duties assigned by the Facilities Manager.

**Incident Reporting**
- Document and report all security and safety incidents, maintaining accurate electronic records for future reference and planning.
- Document repeating issues and trends in security, safety, custodial and maintenance issues.

**Community Engagement**
- Serve as a visible, approachable presence on campus, offering assistance and information on safety procedures and maintenance concerns.

**Training and Qualifications**:

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in security, law enforcement, facilities maintenance, or a related field will be an asset.
- First Aid and CPR certification, which will be provided by the employer.
- Capable of working independently and alone, including working days, nights and weekends.
- Knowledge of building systems, safety regulations, and compliance standards, with the ability to remain calm and decisive in emergency situations.
- A Criminal Record Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check are required.

**Working Conditions**:

- Flexible scheduling is required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays to ensure 24/7 coverage for security and respond to maintenance emergencies.
- The role involves both indoor and outdoor work in various weather conditions and requires physical fitness to perform patrols, inspections, and emergency responses.

**Closing Date: June 11, 2025**

The salary for this position is **$17 hourly plus 4% vacation pay bi-weekly**(there are no benefits associated with this position).
