**Job Title**: Ward Clerk

**Type**:Temporary Full-Time

**Duration**: Approximately 4-6 weeks, with the possibility of extension if required.

**Purpose of the Role**:The Ward Clerk is responsible and accountable for the day to day clerical duties of the Unit and works in accordance with all the Policies and Procedures of the facility. While performing any and all duties of the position, the employee will work in a safe and healthy manner and will follow the regulations outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & SUCCESS CRITERIA:

- Assumes organization of nursing stations, including the stocking and maintenance of desk supplies.
- Assists with the paperwork associated with the admission, transfer and discharge of residents.
- Makes resident bookings, appointments and inquiries, and relays information promptly and accurately.
- Arranges and books volunteers to accompany residents to appointments.
- Assists with the paperwork and informing of participants in interdisciplinary conferences.
- Picks up and delivers reports and mail, departmental and interdepartmental.
- Maintains the paper supplies, forms and requisitions as required.
- Updates and maintains the calendar of events, eg: resident birthdays, appointments.
- Attend to the filing of resident chart material.
- Takes direction from R.N. regarding clerical tasks as required.
- Attends unit meetings and in-services when possible.
- Assumes responsibilities for skill improvement and professional growth.
- Updates unit specific forms, e.g. Resident Weights, Attends Usage, Restraint Sheets and HCA Routines
- This position may be required to perform additional related job functions beyond this description.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

- Secondary School Graduate or equivalent education
- Minimum two years clerical experience in a medical setting.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
- Familiarity with nursing unit routines.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and communications skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and good time management.
- Prompt and accurate recording of information.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Maintain strict confidentiality concerning all resident information.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
