Research Manager Map Primary Care Research

OurCare is a national initiative that aims to engage the public on the future of primary care in Canada. Researchers at MAP are working with MASS LBP to understand the needs, preferences, and values of everyday people living in Canada and their priorities for a better primary care system. The initiative will be rolled out in three phases over 15 months: phase one is a national survey, phase two are reference panels in one or more provinces, and phase three consists of community roundtables focused on marginalized populations in at least three provinces.
We are currently looking for a **Research Manager **to oversee success of the OurCare initiative. The manager will have overall responsibility for execution of the initiative including coordinating of activities, managing project budget and reporting, overseeing MAP personnel, overseeing contracts, and engaging project stakeholders including senior government officials and members of the public. The research manager will be guided by and will report directly to the principal investigator of the study.
This position is funded for one year, with possibility of extension. We are flexible on the time commitment and looking for someone who could be available between 0.6 and 1.0 FTE.
**Duties & Responsibilities**:
- Ensure project goals, objectives and deliverables are met within the required timeline, proactively manage changes in study scope, identify potential risks, and implement contingency plans
- Engage local, provincial and national stakeholders in project execution, including clinicians, policy-makers, and patient partners
- Work with communications personnel at MAP and project partners to promote the project including key milestones and findings
- Write project summaries and communication material for different audiences including members of the public, health professionals and policy-makers
- Prepare reports for funders and system stakeholders
- Develop and/or authorize project budgets and payment schedules
- Coordinate and oversee contracts with third parties involved in the project including payment of invoices and monitoring of deliverables
- Oversee general interim analysis of demographic, safety and efficacy data
- Develop and implement policies, procedures and standards for the research program
- Chair research group meetings as required
- Plan projects, timelines, staffing and resource needs for the research program and support writing of new grants to secure additional funding
- Review scientific data and oversee its analysis. Support preparation of academic papers for publication or presentation along with non-academic outputs (e.g. blogs, website updates, social media posts etc)
**Qualifications**:
- MSc in related discipline with minimum 5 years related experience required or demonstrable equivalent combination of specialized education and experience.
- At least 2-3 years of leadership and managerial experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Canadian health care system, how it functions and its challenges
- Experience working with varied stakeholders including policy-makers at the provincial and/or national level
- Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects including budgeting, hiring, and contracting work
- Experience coordinating a large research program including familiarity with research ethics requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience translating study findings to both lay and scientific audiences
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects in a timely manner and flexibility to adapt to changing workload.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Capable of independent interpretation of study related data
- Professionalism and self-motivation
- Asset: knowledge of primary care in Canada
