**Position Summary**

**Duties & Responsibilities**
- Maintains equipment, tools and related inventory ensures regular routine maintenance is performed.
- Assists in planning, assigning, and scheduling grounds crews engaged in the construction, maintenance, and care of grounds, grass, shrubbery, trees, and other plants.
- Responsible for the maintenance of roads, driveways and parking areas.
- Demonstrates and teaches proper work methods and techniques to employees.
- Conducts periodic inspections of properties and prepares preventive maintenance reports.
- Maintains a preventive maintenance record system and assists in the establishment of work priorities.
- Inspects all areas of grounds to be sure no hazard exists.
- Maintains outdoor furniture, waste receptacles, ashtrays and firepits
- Assists in coordinating, directing and overseeing sub-contractors including but not limited to landscape construction, paving and general labour crews.
- Assists Superintendent / Director of Golf in planning, designing and implementing landscaping improvements where needed.
- Ensures tools and equipment are kept stocked and secured.
- Ensures roadways are maintained as free of snow and ice as possible and on a timely basis.
- Oversees payroll and scheduling of grounds department.
- Works with Human Resources with recruitment and selection.
- Ensures all Deerhurst Resort policies and procedures are followed.
- Foster a positive work environment through team-building and by example
- Regular consultation with the Superintendent / Golf Director regarding any work-related issues.
- Working outside, in a team environment, leading the Grounds Team in maintaining the resort grounds, project management and resort capital projects
- Landscaping/hardscaping and management experience required
- Performs related work as required.

**Qualifications**
- Valid class G (minimum) Ontario driver’s license with clean driving record
- Previous experience in turf maintenance, horticulture, or landscaping
- Post-secondary education in the Horticulture/Landscaping industry and/or 3 years’ experience in the field an asset
- Previous experience operating a lawnmower, tractor, or front-end loader and skid steer
- Guest oriented with a sincere, helpful, caring and friendly personality
- Able to work well with others and individually
- Able to lead a team of skilled and unskilled employees
- Is passionate about maintaining the quality and cleanliness of Deerhurst Resort grounds.
- Able to take direction well.
- Able to adapt in a fast pace, constant changing environment within a dynamic work schedule
- Able to maintain composure and objectivity
- Able to identify problems and make recommendations for improvement
- Able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately
- Is flexible with their schedule, able to work long hours, shift work, evenings, weekends and holidays as business levels require
- Able to perform heavy work - exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force frequently and often to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
- Enjoys working outdoors
