Peterborough, Canada Aspire Program - John Howard Society Full time

The Aspire Mentorship Program supports young adults (age 17-25) who experience barriers in achieving their career, training, education, and life stabilization goals by connecting them with professional volunteer mentors in our community.

Volunteer mentors can support young adults by assisting them in building their life skills, getting involved in the community, and opening up new networking opportunities. Mentors contribute to young adults’ success by modeling employment-related skills and behaviours, and by becoming a caring and consistent figure in their lives. With the support and guidance of mentors, Aspire participants can make more informed decisions about their current situations and future pathways. Volunteer mentors are intentionally matched with participants depending on if their skills/interests/hobbies align with the participant’s goals.

We are currently recruiting volunteer mentors for a variety of time commitments and activities.

**Project Mentors**:Lead a small group of young adults in a group project over several weeks. (e.g., Plan and plant a community garden plot).

**Career Mentors**:Support a young adult directly with their identified goals. Minimum requirement of 2 one-hour meetings per month.

Volunteer Requirements:

- Mentors must participate in a 1-hour agency volunteer orientation as well as a 3-hour mentorship-specific training for the Aspire Program.
- Mentors who are interested in being matched 1:1 must commit to one year of meetings.
- Mentors must be willing to discuss meeting in-person and/or virtually depending on everyone’s comfort level and participant’s goals
- All volunteers must sign and adhere to a professional Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Agreement.
