WellFort is seeking to hire a Certified Dental Assistant Level II on a Part-Time Permanent basis
This position will be part of a new dental clinic focused on dental care for seniors.

WellFort is opening a new dental clinic specializing in dental care for seniors and is seeking an experienced certified dental assistant to join our new team. The clinic will operate 3 days a week to start.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Chair-side duties
- Set up/ wipe down of working area
- Instrument sterilization
- Four handed dentistry/ assisting hygienist and denturist.
- Suctioning the oral cavity
- Preparation of materials needed for each treatment.
- Recording data on patient’s chart
- Patient specific oral health education/instruction
- Other extra-oral duties as required by the dentist
- Light curing
- Placement and removal of articulating paper for occlusal adjustment
- Instruction in care and maintenance of pre-fitted appliances
Intra Oral core duties
- Digital radiography as specified by HARP
- Selective coronal polishing with prophy paste
- Placement and removal of rubber dam
- Taking of preliminary impressions of teeth for study models
- Pouring/trimming of models
- Dietary counseling relative to dentistry
- Application of materials topically to prepare the surface of the teeth for pit and fissure sealants
- Application of pit and fissure sealants
- Application of topical anesthetics
- Application of desensitizing agents
- Prepare all operatories and equipment, following strict infection control measures, at the start of the day and between clients.
- Dental education: teaches oral hygiene to patients, is responsible, along with the hygienist and dentist, for patient education and prevention programs
**Performs a range of chair-side duties including**:
- On the requisition of dentist, takes full series, bite wing and panoramic digital x-rays.
- Takes impressions for study models, pours models and makes special trays;
- Applies pit and fissure sealants
- Sterilize, clean and maintain appropriate dental instruments and equipment according to protocol and guidelines set out by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario. This includes the preparation of solutions and cleaning agents
- Places and/or remove rubber dam.
- Assist dentist with all procedures; suction/evacuation function.
- Set up trays for individual procedures
- Prepare clients and make them comfortable
- Adheres to infection control standards and universal precautions at all times.
Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- Successful completion of an approved/accredited college level II dental assisting program
- Successful pass of national dental assisting examining board (ndaeb) exam
- Current certificate of registration with Ontario dental assistants association (odaa)
- Experience as a chair-side in a large dental office
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and groups.
- Ability to function and work cooperatively with several dentists and hygienists as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- An understanding of and critical analysis of the determinants of health and social factors, such as power dynamics that affect individual, organizational and community health.
- Experience working in a value based non profit or social services organization.
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills and the ability to multi task in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to speak languages relevant to the residents of the organization’s community is an asset.
**Requirements**:
- Valid First Aid & CPR Certification
- Must present a Vulnerable Sector Check that meets the employer’s standard
- Completed 2-Step TB Test
- Must be available to work weekends and statutory holidays
