**Position Overview**

Sherwood Park Manor’s Physiotherapy Assistant works within a multidisciplinary team of heath care providers to provide physical support and rehabilitation to the residents of the long-term care home. The primary goal of this position is to deliver care, support and encouragement to patients in order to promote independence.

**Key Tasks and Responsibilities**
- With the support of the Physiotherapist, carry out assessments within the Manor to identify what care and support is needed
- Work with other professionals such as nursing to ensure residents have the ability to carry out (with support) physical fitness programs as prescribed
- Provide advice related to the use of specialist equipment
- Respond to patient and family needs
- Prevent unnecessary hospital admission and support end of life care

**Skills and Knowledge**
- PTA/OTA Diploma or Kinesiology degree preferred
- Fitness Instructor Certification for older adult or seniors (or equivalent)
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with the residents of a LTC home
- Knowledge and experience in geriatric programs
- Ability to work under stress
- Strong communication skills and ability to work within a team
- Proven oral and written communication skills

**Working Conditions**:

- Stand and walk for long periods
- Sit for short periods
- Bend, stoop, and carry
- Push/pull wheeled equipment
- Safely transfer and lift (up to 20 kg.) in accordance with Sherwood Park Manor’s transfer and lift procedures
- Work in a busy environment with interruptions and multiple ongoing priorities.
- Work day, evening, weekends, and holidays
- Manor policies require all employees to properly wear surgical masks and N-95 when necessary
- Obtain and pass a Vulnerable Sector Check, if one available must be less then 6 months old
- Must have an up to date 2 -step TB test
